Further to the biased Dispatches program follow by the children's commissioner's failed attempt to justify her proposals on here, i would like to ask what is being done to ensure the govt doesn't over step the mark in the name of safeguarding.
I've read this thread from another user
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/home_ed/3502757-Isle-of-Man-to-criminalise-home-ed-parents
The article in the link is shocking. They have a compulsory register but seek to have powers to drop in simply if the department 'suspects' education isn't suitable. This is a wishy washy blanket term that could be used whenever.

They also want to interview the children. How will the response of each child be interpreted?
The article mentions a gofundme page to seek legal advice and an oppurtunity to fill in the consultation but nothing else.
I do believe that they will try to bring those changes here too if it goes through on the Isle of Man. Once the authorities get their foot in the door they can increase their powers more and more.

The education sector has been ruined lately and now they want to dictate more on home ed.

It feels like the job of the parent is just to feed kids, clean them and keep them warm. The state decides the rest.

Are there any other online campaigns ? Anything on twitter?

Trying to send the link again:

They also want to have more say over what to teach, it seems.

This is a really useful FB group to be on: www.facebook.com/groups/stophl11/ Home Education UK Parliamentary and Media Monitoring & Action

Remit: "A group for monitoring Government, Parliamentary and Media activity that may affect the home education community and then sharing that information with other forums.

We also hope that campaigning activities by home educators can be shared here so the rest of the community knows what is going on. It may also be useful for coordinating or discussing bigger campaigns."

It was set up to fight Lord Soley's bill last year, but it soon became apparent that a wider remit would be more effective. I'm glad to see an ongoing group in place of the various shorter-term campaigns which pop up in response to the latest crisis. Those are useful, but we also need to keep an eye on the bigger picture.

It has nearly 8000 members. The moderators are very well informed HE rights activists.
