Flexi-schooling for child with SEN

My son has ASD and has a place at special school from September (he's 4.5). Since he got his place we've started an intensive home programme and he's making fantastic progress. I've been going into the special school with him once a week for induction and am becoming more and more concerned about the differences between the kind of education offered there and the experience he's getting at home. The school, staff and pupils are lovely and there are certain things he'd benefit from hugely - sensory room, soft play, music, horse-riding etc - but there just isn't much 1:1 teaching at all.

So, I'm starting to think about flexi-schooling. Does anyone here have any experience of this with a child with SEN and a special school? Would be very grateful for any thoughts.

I am not sure if it is possible, but my son who has sen has just left school this time. I was able to have an altered timetable set up for him but he was at the options age stage. I home educated him for a little while when he was in year 6/7 age group and regret not continueing with it as he works a lot better on a one to one basis. I fought for help but never got anywhere. I think that you would have to push very hard for flexy, as the lea prefer children to be at school so they may consider a compromise.

Hmmmm, technically it is possible, however, I'm assuming that your child has a Statement (as he is at a Special School) and this would likely throw a spanner in the works re. flexi-schooling.

I'd suggest perhaps asking on the HE Special list (as there's a wealth of experience on there) someone might have some experience of flexi-schooling a child who attend a Special School.

I agree with dottyspots the home ed list for families who have special needs, will be the very best place to ask this question. There is a huge wealth of experience and expertise on there.
You can find the link for the list on the webpage www.he-special.org.uk/index.php
