GCSEs for home ed

I’m considering home ed for my ds but I can’t find any info on how he would sit his GCSEs if he doesn’t go to high school.

Is there an online, credible online provider that is affordable? There are a lot of companies offering GCSEs but I don’t know Noel if this would be acceptable for college or university entrance.

I think you have to study for something called an iGCSE.

This is the best place to start: he-exams.wikia.com/wiki/HE_Exams_Wiki

The link Saracen shared is best place to start.

You can sit GCSEs that don't have a coursework/practical element as a private candidate. Some subjects such as science or English language need to be done as International GCSE to get around the practical element. The link has advice on finding centre. The GCSE exams are the same as they would sit in school, IGCSE is equivalent and some private schools sit them.
Online providers generally offer tuition, you still need to find an exam centre. Studying you can buy the textbook for the course, use a tutor, look for group lessons in your area (lots have them), use online providers or do a mix of these approaches depending on subject.

Read the Wiki though it covers things in much more detail.

I've just seen your other thread OP am I right that your son is reception age? Sorry if misunderstood but actually what I am going to say I still would if he was yr 7.

Don't borrow problems from the future. The situation around exams changes so quickly that you can't make decisions regards home ed now based on what might be the situation in 9 years time.
Schools won't go away. I have seen many children choose to go back (or try) school at some point later on. If home ed is right for now then do it, if 6 months down the line it's not working then you can reapply for a school place. If it's working give it another 6 months or a year and just keep going along like that. We went with we'd home ed until 7 and then take a year at a time. One did senior school but is home ed again for 6th form, youngest is yr 8 and just starting GCSE study (we are staggering the exams over 3 years - no need to sit 11 at all never mind at one time) having never been to school.
