Do you use a set reading scheme and if so which one?

DD1 is five and learnt to read a little when she was at nursery school. I don't want her to forget what she has learnt and would like to do a bit of reading with her. Thing is she isn't overly keen and says, quite understandably I feel, that the reading books she used to read were boring. I suppose they are, because they have to be so simple.

Is this just a stage you have to go through, to enable them to get onto a higher level and therefore more interesting books?

Do you use a scheme which you child likes? I

Tbh I would both join your local library and then your DD can choose some books she is interested in to read.....imo if they are interested in the books children are much more likely to keep reading.....

Try this site, it's absolutely fab! My 2 have tried ORT and found it really boring, but loved this site and came on a treat.

Mikk, I've just had a quick look at Starfall, thanks, it does look good fun. I'll show it to DD1 tomorrow!

Terramum, yes we already borrow loads of books from the library but the books she likes are the ones I read to her ie too advanced for her to read to herself yet. The books she could read to herself would be for babies surely? Or do they have reading books for beginners at the library? I must say I hadn't thought of that.

Thanks both of you for replying.

Don't use set reading scheme however have found a way to get reluctant reader(dd6yrs) to read words and make up sentences, although some nonsense.Magnetic words on write on wipe off magnetic board.Even when ill she will play with this and she loves me to read the nonsense on the grounds that she has to try to read the words and sentences I put down for her.
