Am seriously considering home-ed my dd2 as her school doesnt appear to be addressing some serious probs (3rd time in 2 weeks she has come out of school and bawled for an hour. She is calling herself names and saying she is thick, ugly, stupid etc. I have been in about this and have come to end of my tether). However, it's only going to be till July as she changes schools then and I think it will be good to start a fresh. So i have questions for you home-ed mums please!

  1. How do i go about listing her as now out of school and home educating?
  2. Do you think it is worth it- I do as she is getting depressed with the on going bullying, but i need advice.
  3. The head said on thursday "What about her SATS" and i wondered if you still do exams or how I go about doing them so her results go with her to secondary school.
Thanks for any advice

Your first stop should be:
\link{http://education-otherwise.co.uk}

1.You'll get all the legal information you need there regarding de-registration etc.
Essentially you just send a letter to the head stating that you want your child de-registered and they will now be 'educated otherwise'. It is then their responsibility to inform your LA.
You could do it this week, you will all feel so much better next week!
But please refer to the eo website.

2.Yes it is definitely worth it!!!
Your dd will probably need time to recover, so just have some quality fun time together or she may just want some time to herself.
If you're worried about 'education' days out can do that and the internet is stuffed full of educational sites.

As for SATS I thought they were purely for the school league tables not for the child.( I don't know this just the impression I got).
I certainly wouldn't see this as a reason to keep her in school, if anything it's another stressful situation she could well do without!!

CAT me if you need any more info.
I HE 2 dds 7 and 3.

In England yes. That website had loads of info, thanks again. Why are things so different in Scotland? My dd3 born there so feel akinship!!!

SATS are purely for the school, nothing to do with the child.

It sounds like your DD has been failed enough by the school and I would take her out of school tomorrow, (say she's ill if you are not organised with the relevant letters yet - she is ill if she's depressed).

I agree that she will need some time to get over what she has been through before she starts her new school.
