Advice really really appreciated at the moment!
My son has a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and Motor Cordination difficulties and at present, is in Y5 of a mainstream primary. Over the past year or so, my son has become increasingly anxious and has recently started refusing to attend school. He says he feels lonely, worried and anxious most days and I am now at a point where I feel it would be beneficial to home educate. He does not follow the same curriculum as everyone else at school, due to his anxiety issues and has been withdrawn from Y6 SATS, on my request.
However, I am just in the process of applying for an EHCP, as there is a local SEN school near us that I feel would support his needs at secondary level.
I just wanted advice on if withdrawing him up until secondary age is a good idea, if applying to the local council for future support? Could it affect his application in anyway? This is the only thing stopping me from pulling him out of school right now. Any opinions much appreciated. TIA

If you offer to home school, the council has less obligation to find a suitable educational establishment for your child.

Talk to the sen school about their admissions and what criteria need to be met before you make any decisions or changes. They may be in a better position to help you apply.

Is there a primary within reasonable travelling distance that could meet his needs before secondary?

It could be a great deal more difficult to get your DS into a specialist school when he is home educated, not least because refusing the placement and your carrying on educating him is very cost efficient for the LA.

I would apply for the EHC assessment, appeal if it is refused because your DS clearly qualifies and, in the meantime, look at every possible school in the vicinity. I would only HE is there really wasn't a school that could meet his needs before secondary.

Exactly what I was thinking! I need to consider all implications if I were to go down the home ed route. Thanks for your advice Smile
