Interhigh parents, come this way. . .

Following on from a thread in chat, it was suggested we might like to get together over here.

I've one DS currently in year 10 at IH. We are based in Staffordshire. I guess I'd just like to chat with other parents in a similar situation.

As a potential IH parent, I will watch with interest! Thanks for your advice on previous thread, Rum.

I'm also a potential IH parent, will started looking for my dd for year 10 and 11. I'll be following with interest.

Ds2 is 12 and started this January. He's enjoying it so far and the educational standards appear to be high. He gets homework for each subject every week. He seems to be coverIng more work each week than he was at regular school, but in less time. His English teacher is a PhD.

You need to have a reliable internet connection and be reasonably computer literate, but it's not difficult to set up the system.

Ds has his desk in the lounge, I'd recommend having it somewhere you can supervise and keep an eye on them.

Is it possible to join mid year do you know?

I think you can join anytime. They follow the national curriculum and there's a library of past lessons so you can catch up if necessary.

My 13 year old has been at Interhigh since October half term and we're very happy with it. She hadn't attended regular school for quite some time due to mental health problems but she's settled into IH really well, made lots of friends and is going on their activity weekend in April.

Ds hasn't really figured out how to make friends yet, but we're hoping to kick start things shortly. He has asd and doesn't find it easy.

My son has been at Interhigh since September, also very happy with it. He's been HE for several years (before IH we used WES, who were also excellent). Helpimitchy - I was really impressed with the social side of IH when we joined, but my son hasn't taken the slightest interest in it yet, beyond reading the forum posts occasionally. Maybe it's a boy thing

Re: the social side - within a day or so of starting my daughter got e-mailed by one of her classmates and her making friends started from there. If they want to make friends perhaps e-mailing one of their classmates is the way forward.

That's a good idea Crankyhousewife, thanks Other children do sometimes email my son but he never seems to reply. He's just now starting to chat a bit in the class chat. I'll try and encourage him to be proactive. He has a lot of friends outside IH, including a big group of online friends on Steam, so I'm not too worried, but it would be nice if he took more active role in school.

If anybody's child would be interested in playing minecraft or whatever with ds you can pm me. He's 13 this year and quirky and has Aspergers, but he's friendly and helpful. He has virtually no social contact now as he had to leave school due to bullying. He's lost contact with the one friend that he did have

I have 2 with interhigh, started September. So far very happy with it. Neither had been in school for a while due to asd and other health problems. One in year 9 and year 10. She's gone back a year as she missed her first GCSE year. They still don't chat in class but I'm sure they will get there. I'd love for them to make some friends though. Dd2 has had a few emails but she's too scared to respond at the moment

Count me in too, DD 14 is in year 9 and has been at Inter for almost 2 years ( also moved back a year due to health and attendance)

It's been a real gamer changer for DD from suicide watch before she joined to social butterfly within the school now

Are any of you coming to PGL? DD is counting down the days she can't wait after the Awesome time they had last year

My daughter's going to the PGL weekend although she's starting to get anxious about it (anxiety was the reason we removed her from school). She's already met some of her new friends though and is seeing one of them next week so I'm sure she'll be okay.

Don't worry too much, DD is also a severe anxiety sufferer, last year we really didn't know if she would cope, she loved it! Was shattered by the end and cried on leaving

We also did Harry Potter in December, have your camera ready as the reunions when they find each other are a real tug on your heart strings

One tip for PGL after last time, send her with plenty of change! Lots of snack and drinks machines and nowhere to change notes

Hi there, new to Mumsnet and no idea whether I'm doing this right!!! We are trialling InterHigh after May half-term with a view to starting in September. De-registered our highly anxious 13 year old daughter (year 9) just this week. Its great to read your comments and would be lovely to have a place to ask questions. Thank you.

I'm an interhigh mum to a year 9 DD very similar story, we joined exactly 2 years ago after reaching the end of the road

What can I say, don't panic it's fab for girls like ours, we're just back from interhigh weekend where they all had a blast

Lots of the year 9 girls are just like your DD and very friendly, natalie and the staff behind the scenes are lovely and Paul (the head) is great with the youngsters

It really is a leap into the unknown but it should be fine honestly, if you need a hand hold feel free to dm me

One suggestion for you, this morning before it all starts take a picture of her on her new journey in her 'new' school uniform!

For DD it was her fleecy pjs as she hated clothes at that stage, I guess it's almost a bit anti establishment but we've done it every year start since and it's made our DD feel good about being her

I've no idea what this school is your talking about...I'm assuming it's on line..will look it up,can anyone shed any light on costs and info pls x

Inter High is the UKs only online school.
They learn in a virtual classroom in real time with a teacher....unlike many other companies who upload the lessons not in real time.

It's very populat with children on the ASD spectrum and children who perhaps travel a lot etc.

The children sit IGCSEs in year 11.

They can actually stay to year 13 taking A levels too

Do you get funding for inter high?
