Any experiences of InterHigh please?

I've read some past threads, but would like to chat about this system.

Ds2 isn't coping well in Year 6 and is being assessed for Aspergers soon.

We're looking at different methods of education for him and someone on MN mentioned InterHigh. I've taken a look at their website and it looks interesting.

I just have a few questions - do you need to sit with the pupil during their lesson?

Is it done via Skype?

Are there opportunities for making online friends with the other pupils?

Can you still join a home ed support group in your area to get info and support/social opportunities whatever?

Just any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks for answering Beatrice35. Another question: my husband and I have flexible jobs, so we are thinking we could holiday in the cheaper months with our son in term time but him not missing classes. Were you able to do that? Does it work in practice?

Beatrice35 · 06/07/2018 09:07

Yes it does. Families go on holiday during term times and kids connect to their lessons and tell their friends about the wonderful place they are doing the lesson from! Such a privilege.

That’s great to know. A definite ‘pro’ in our list of ‘pros and cons’. Still figuring out what’s best. Do we start Interhigh until there’s a place in one of our chosen state schools for a term or so. Or do we commit for a year and join him in year 8 in a state school? Financially it’ll be tough but worth it if our son thrives. Thanks so much for responding!

You don't have to commit for a whole year. From what I understand, with the new contract you commit on a term to term basis. If during one term you know it is going to be the last one, you can give notice that your son won't be joining the following term and that will be fine, you won't be charged for it. And you will get you deposit refunded. Other online schools are more flexible and only ask for 4 weeks' notice. They also only run interactive lessons. You can have a look around, if you prefer more flexibility. We are going to try a new one in September, because lead lessons don't suit us. Fingers crossed.

My 13 year old is joining interhigh in September and we have our induction hour on Thursday. I’m not very computer literate so my concerns centre around how I will support her, what equipment she will need etc . She has an iPad and access to a lap top. Any advice gratefully received .

We’re just about to enrol our DD 12 with inter high. But haven’t read about lead classes... what are they?
