Socialisation-Yes or No?

Am not sure what to do here

Like most of the rest of you, I normally keep my kids locked under the stairs so as to prevent them interacting with other kids.

But, its Christmas, and while going door to door soliciting their services as chimney sweeps I think they met some kid and got chatting.

Anyway, they have been invited to go over and play.

whaddya think? I wouldn't normally allow such blatant interaction with other kids but...its christmas. And they are conjugating their latin verbs splendidly atm.

TIA

Errm, why wouldn't you want them socialising with other children? IMHO, any parent that asks if they want a playtime together is very much welcomed, as it is by them.

I'm confused.

earlgrey · 23/12/2006 07:10

HTF, are you taking the mickey?

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 07:11

Your having a laugh!

Invite children over to play at yours first and see how they get on in the cupboard under the stairs

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 23/12/2006 07:15

eh?

no am deadly serious

if i wanted them to socialise with others I would send them to School.

paps what would be the etiquette there?

would the guest kids play into the cupboard under the stairs also?

My kids aren't very good with light.

I'm sorry I replied to this. You're obviously taking the mickey.

Enjoy your Christmas, and if you do have children, look after them.

"Like most of the rest of you, I normally keep my kids locked under the stairs so as to prevent them interacting with other kids."

shakes head, in a manner.

YES

If the they seem alittle cramped (as in unable to breath) place a large wardrobe in front of cupboard so they can play in there too!

might I recommend, if you don´t think this is too OTT, installing a low wattage long life lightbulb in the cupboard - your children will appreciate the subdued ambiance.

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 07:32

how about one of those chutes children love to play inside - one of those directed straight at the chimney so they can go play up there too??

oh they are going to have so much fun!!

sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 07:35

If they are all wearing their mouthguards, that should protect them from harmful oral habits

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 23/12/2006 07:42

oh yes

am feeling all warm and fuzzy thinking about it now

(ps paps is it snowing there?)

OP posts:
sotheycalledmeparapapillon · 23/12/2006 07:53

No snow here yet this year... temps dropped to quick from being quite warm

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 23/12/2006 07:56

Pmsl fillyjonk!
I would let the kids go next door but be strict about them using any of the other 5 languages they know other than English to communicate. That way the other children will quickly become confused and the 'play' will fizzle out. They'll be back in their cupboard before you know it.

Astrophe · 23/12/2006 15:44

I can't believe you would consider allowing your children to waste valuable learning time 'playing', as you call it, with other children. And think of the nasty habits they might pick up. Outrageous.

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 23/12/2006 17:59

am worried about ds's ugaritic though. he keeps confusing it with ancient hebrew, though I have tried beating him.

hmmm am having second thoughts about this socialisation lark now
