Some do, some don't, in the same way that some home edders follow the national curriculum, others prefer a less structured approach. The Education Otherwise newsletters often have heartening stories of kids getting university places with no formal exams, just an interview and maybe a portfolio of their work. In the same way that any group of kids are going to vary widely, some seem to be incredibly self-motivated and are high achievers in the possibly conventional sense, others will have a more laid back approach to life.

My children are planning to.
We don't follow the National Curriculum, but we will obviously study the exam courses when the time comes.
The plan is for them to take four or five GCSEs to start with, and do the courses in one year.
A lot of HE children go straight to 'A' levels.

I'm hoping my dd can take her first gcse when she is about 13, not sure how we go about yet though she's only 7!
The idea will be that she takes one at a time not cram 7 in at once!
I'd like her to do the International Bacc. rather than A'levels, which don't seem to be worth much now days!
Also she'll be able to choose which ones to take.
When I was at school I wanted to do Physics, chemistry and biology but couldn't because it didn't fit the timetable! I had to do french instead which i hated!!
