every parent has the right to teach their children at home.

click on this link it will tell you more

lemonaid · 13/11/2006 11:51

Yes, you can home ed them. Refer the school to "Education (Pupil Registration) Regulation 8(1)(d) 2006". They should then pass on your DDs' names and addresses to the Local Authority within two weeks and the LA will contact you for details of the education you are providing. It's actually an offence for the school not to deregister your DDs under these circumstances when you ahve instructed them to.

LadyMuck · 13/11/2006 11:53

You have the right to, but you will have to demonstrate that you are doing so. If they want to be heavy handed they will arrnage for you to be inspected sooner rather than later.

What arrangements have you made re home ed?

Well first off - are you sure that this is the option you want. Are you certain you don't want to look for a different school instead?

If you do decide to home ed then you must de register your children from school. As long as they are registered at the school then you are obliged to send them. Have a look here .

How old are your dds? Do you know anyone in RL who home eds?

lemonaid · 13/11/2006 12:04

Start off with Education Otherwise -- read everything on their website and also join them (£25 for the first year). You can join online here .

You're going to need to demonstrate what provision you are making for your DDs' education, and that could be within a few weeks, so as well to get reading now and get everything in order.

lemonaid · 13/11/2006 12:05

Among everything else they have a sample deregistration letter, so if you are sure about home ed then send that in now to make sure the lagalities are covered.

tjgx · 13/11/2006 12:15

OK, so your dds are 13 and 14.

Have to say that I have no idea how you would study for hair and beauty qualifications at home. what other GCSE options was she sitting?

Are your dds motivated to learn at home? How have they performed at school so far (ahead of average, average, below, average, struggling).

juuule · 13/11/2006 12:39

Education Otherwise have local contacts that you could speak to. Email them for more information. They are invaluable especially at the start. They can also put you in touch with home-ed groups in your area. That way you can talk face-to-face with people who are already home-edding and some who have been in your position.
Regarding the school, whoever spoke to you obviously doesn't know what they are talking about. Have you sent a de-registration letter in? If you haven't then you legally have a responsibility to send your dds to school and if you do want to home-ed then you need to get that letter in as soon as possible. If you have already de-registered them by letter then you need have no further contact with the school.
You do not need to have an inspection visit. You can request a delay before you show them evidence of your provision. By that time you will probably have met up with other home-ed groups/families/local contact and have a better idea of what you are going to do. Most of all don't panic.

I'm not saying don't HE, but is it worth taking to the school to see if they can arrange for your dds to get some qualification out of school. (sorry I don't know all the history and I don't men to be offensive in any way'

I would think that it would be very difficult to get a beauty qualification using just HE. The school may well be able to arrange for them to to to a local collage to do that sort of course (we do that at our school). Then the girls could use HE to cover things like English and maths....or if you rather they could do that at collage as well.

You are totaly within your right to de regester your girls, and in the end you may well find that this is the option that suits you all. But I would ask the school what alternatives they can come up with, possibly in terms of 'alternative Education' paths. Hope this isn't going over old ground for you.

tjgx · 16/11/2006 13:58

hi ya ive only de registerd my 13 yr old the eldest isnt to sure what she wants 2 do very mixed up at the moment,so will ring and ask the school thanx 4 that x
