Athletic Championships for Home Ed children

Does anyone have a child who belongs to an Athletic Club?
Have any of them ever competed in the county schools champs and if so how? I know the competition is for school aged children, but I'm trying to find out if they have to be in a 'typical' school rather than home ed. DD would like to compete as her friends are but they have to be entered by the school.
Any help or ideas.
Thanks.

As far as I'm aware you still come under the LEA so anything open to a range of schools should be open to your daughter... But how you go about getting her involved I could not say! If you are already registered and receiving visits could you ask the person who does this? A chance for them to be useful for once Grin

Why not ring the organisers?

"you go about getting her involved I could not say! If you are already registered"

Just to say you don't have to be registered with anyone to HE.

Do you want to enter as a single entry type thing? I'd contact the organisers about that. Otherwise, if you wanted to join a particular school then perhaps contact that school and ask if you could join them, on a flexi school kind of basis (I know of some home educators as part of flexi just attend, for eg, art and PE)

Unless it's particularly the county championships you're after I'd just find the local athletics club personally and have my child join there.

Agree you don't need to be registered

Thanks for the replies.
DD is already in an Athletics Club (and is home ed). I'll contact the local county athletics schools board and see what they say.

Would Quadkids be the sort of thing you are looking for?

And look on your LA homepage for county trials etc.

Is there any particular reason why your DD wants schools, rather than open, competitions?

In Athletics you can compete for your club in inter-matches and leagues, you can then go on and represent your club in county championships. Along side this, you can compete for your school in county championships...but DD is home schooled. So my question was, to those who have kids as experienced club athletes, how do they or can they compete in county school champs?

Erm I know you don't need to be registered... That's why I said 'if you are already registered'.... Ie why draw attention to yourself if you aren't already...

The coaches at ds athletics club also help with stewarding/ organising school county athletics activities - might be worth having a chat with the coaches?

windypolar · 20/04/2015 14:40

Because you don't need to be registered in order to contact the LA for advice and information either. And if the risk of becoming 'known' to them is such a worry, then you could ask somebody else to make the call, home educator or not.
