Keeping up with the National Curriculum

I'm removing DS from year 2 at school to build his self-esteem and confidence ready for going into year 3 at Junior school next September.

I'm concious that he is behind at school and would have had some "catching up" to do anyway - but how do I make sure that his learning with me keeps him up to speed with his peers who are at school?

He is very bright and loves to learn new things, and LOVES learning facts and "stuff" but struggles with putting pen to paper. Such as that he can sound words out to read them, but then struggles to write words using his phonics.

This year is going to be fun and it will be marvellous to spend some time with him and be such a big part of his learning, but don't want him to fall below where he could be at if he were in a good school rather than the one that has been failing him.

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

95% of my children's learning happens by them asking me questions and me doing my best to answer them that is, all of them at once, while I am driving a complicated route somewhere new

It's hard to imagine before you start HE-ing, but that toddler "why" phase pretty much comes back, only more rational, and with more by way of follow-up questions rather than a string of "whys"
