I mostly lurk on these threads as we're thinking about HE for our DD. But I may finally have something to contribute!

Those of you with DCs interested in archaeology/ancient history - if you live near a university with an archaeology dept, they usually have public lectures that anyone can attend, often for free. Some will be held in big lecture theatres with little chance to chat afterwards, but some are held within the departments and have a meet/greet afterwards, with a lot of time for further discussion. There should be info on the department websites, but if not you can phone and ask. I used to help out with Durham's Grin

Also a lot of councils run annual archaeology days with talks and displays where you can talk to local archaeology groups, and see what there is in the area. It's not learning the language, but they could certainly point you in the direction of more resources you may not be aware of!
