We're moving to a new are in January and DS1 is in Y2. There are no school places nearby for him, the nearest school is over 30 mins away. As DD1 has a place, I am considering homeschooling him for the next two terms until he is due to start KS2 in September.

I've never even contemplated Home Schooling before and I don't know an awful lot about it all. It all feels a bit daunting.

Does anyone have experience of homeschool their child in Y2? Please come and make me feel a bit more at ease with it all.

I've not done yr 2 but we find HE a beautiful experience for one ds who was at school. Other is at school. Check out Education Otherwise website. Look at some people's blogs. Basically you don't need to do exams, a timetable, set terms, set subjects. You should be aiming to help your child progress. You can choose to do this by simulating school at home or you can just use everything life brings to you. You may have to be proactive in seeking out PE options or socializing with children ds's age but everything else is as easy as you'd like it to be.

Watch out for family and friends not understanding or being positively hostile towards the idea (they are just jealous that they had to suffer years of schooling or are not in a position to do such a great thing for their own child).

Thanks Maggi. I've had a brief look at some websites, don't know where to start really. He's very bright and is reading at year 4 level and his maths is year 3. I'm not too concerned that he'll fall behind academically. My main concern is that he is quite shy and cautious and really flourishes at school. I'll have to make sure that I do lots for him socially.

To be honest, I'm doing it out of necessity really. He adores school so I want to make sure I can keep this going so when he starts at junior school, he's just as enthusiastic!
