Anybody else finished for Christmas yet?

We are feeling in the holiday mood as no more formal learning now until January.
Its not that we do a lot of formal but are semi structured mainly.
There are lots of concerts, rehearsals etc coming up so dd is mostly chillin atm.
She thought of doing a few bits of crafts, baking and of course carrying on with the music practice.
Anybody else like this?
What are you all up too, its very quiet on here lately.

We don't do much formal learning at the moment as DD1 is only 5yo. Things do get busier towards Christmas and there are more parties to go to. We're still doing our weekly trip to the library though.

I think this forum is quiet because every time you get more than 10 posts on a thread, someone will pop up saying how they think HE is a bad idea (for whatever reason). So many threads are turning into debates about HE and I think it puts people off posting.

It is quieter on here -possibly for the reasons EauRouge has said.
How about joining us on the mumsnet HE FB page
where everyone is asked to confirm they actually are a home educator, if they have no obvious links to HE.
It is less of a problem there.

No, though we're taking this week off for a stomach bug/slow end of the year bedroom clear out. DD1 was the first to get it and first to get better and has been asking when we're going to do lessons since which felt nice (the far larger than I expected though I should know better by now project that their rooms are - not so much).

We don't do Christmas, and currently making plans for New Year's when we'll like stop for a bit to recharge and regather and to do more wintery activities with friends when they're more likely to be around.

Noooooo, don't mention Christmas. I've got 2 doing GCSEs
next year and we're gearing up for revision - I might let them stop for Christmas week... if they buy me chocolate.

maggi · 06/12/2013 08:31

We're still going until schools break up. Even then we will only stop looking at books entitled GCSE. We will continue to do all the other stuff like physical exercise, art, lifeskills, socialisation, discussions, reading and trips....life doesn't stop.

Unusually I have already done all the present shopping (except for Hubby). It is all stacked in the corner of my bedroom under sheets and I have to remembe to lock my door. I'm not sure which is more stressfull: last minute shopping or remembering to lock my door for weeks.

We had an official "just chillin' " week just gone where we did some arts and crafts, made some more soaps and just did an hours english and maths each day. Online lessons had finished for the term and he'd also completed the unit studies I'd set him.

DS needed the break as he didn't break for 1/2 term and has wanted to work through several weekends on his unit studies.

Now he's had a chance to recharge his batteries we'll crack on again next week. I'd rather go on DS's energy levels than copy the formal school terms iysim. Also if we do want to go away it'll be cheaper to go off peak! Perhaps I'd feel differently if I felt DS had been lazy recently, but he'd earned a good rest.

We'll have Xmas week off simply because of the usual family visiting rounds.

Nothing changes for us :) Except maybe new video games to play on after Christmas and new DVDs to watch :D

Sleepgrumpydopey · 13/12/2013 21:03

Eaurouge If someone is going out of their way to visit a board just to post negative comments, I would assume they had a sad unfulfilled existence and was jealous of the people on here who are HE.
Happy holidays everyone. I haven't taken the leap to HE yet but reading the posts on here has inspired me to do some baking and art activities over the holidays, so thank you :-)

Oh I managed to finish work a week early ..so I'm getting ready for Christmas by .... no not wallowing in the furtive crowds searching for the ideal present (non existent)....no I'm not sneaking away ....I'm....... stripping wallpaper. Which is mildly exciting, it means my dining room will be all shiny and new for the big day. It's hard work as the last layer of wallpaper has been stuck on with araldite and nothing short of a grinder is getting it off.
