Making the decision to Home school - Cheltenham, Glos

Hi all.
Making the decision to home school is confusing me.
Due to my daughters bday being just 2 weeks after the start of term 2014 she will have to wait a whole year as there are no Jan intakes here.
Now, not to gloat, she is ready for that now. Shes meeting and somewhat over shooting her milestones. She's in a nursery where they have a preschool section but as they've voiced there's only so much they can do on the front of 'teaching'.

Could someone... anyone... PLEASE shed light on what I can do/can't do, the good the bad and the ugly of home schooling. And also where to find the resources as to not allow her to "suffer" so to speak.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Victoria

There are many pros and cons to H.ed and of course every family is different and choose their own way, so it isn't really a case of good, bad and ugly.

You need to ask yourself how your child will benefit over the next year if you decide to H.ed.
What would you like to focus on and if you wish your child to join mainstream school in the future.
I would strongly advise doing some research and finding out about H.ed groups in your area and maybe going along and meeting some parents.
The internet is the best place to access resources and you can either buy a package if this is the route you wish to take, or just download the resources applicable to you for free.
Some parents choose not to teach but rather support the dc learning, others follow the n.c and a more formal approach. There are so many different approaches and it is up to you how you chose to H.ed.
After having dc attend school in the past we have found it very liberating with far fewer constraints than school.

Victoria - have you been in touch with your local email group? There are loads of HEors in Gloucestershire. PM me and I'll give you the info. You're welcome to give me a ring as well to chat.
