Hello fellow home educators anyone wants to share how their day went today

Good. My ds finally wrote down his workings in a practice gcse maths paper and lost just one mark. A big difference to last month. I'm seeing the light! and so is he. But the biggest thing was that he didn't moan about doing a Maths paper.

Other HE stuff went well too with lots of cross curricular discussion.

Oh and I managed to catch up on some of my own paperwork.

Today is not really a working day at home as such.
DD did the usual music practice this morning, but no singing as she is singing on Radio 3 this afternoon, airing around 5.30 I think.
She was really excited, bless.
So many musical events this week, so not much academic stuff done.
A bit of Maths and writing diary and journal mostly, with quite a bit of reading.
Not worried though because she seems to be improving and progressing nicely.
How is your day going OP?

redberries · 23/11/2013 01:44

Not great, not getting much done as I had a newborn now, considering sending dc back to school

Ds is 15 (and very hormonal), has AS and ADHD, and currently has an eczema flare up. It's not a good combo. We are also adjusting to lots of changes and new things, so it's a bit of a nightmare at the moment Sad.

On the plus side, he has just had an English practice paper marked (exams in January) and it was fab Grin. And there's a new work experience opportunity for me to investigate next week.

Swings and roundabouts Wink.

I went through similar, not with a new baby though Grin
I was convinced that dd wasn't doing enough, or that I wasn't teaching her well enough. Days can go by and it seems like she does nothing at all, but when I start to look at what she has learnt and how much she has grown in lots of ways, I am sure we did the right thing.
What was it that made you leave initially. I think sometimes it helps to go back to your original thoughts.

Streakybacon

Apologies for ignoring your post, I sent too soon. Grin

It sounds like your poor ds is going through it atm, poor love.
Well done with the English paper, it must set your mind at rest and a work experience opportunity, can't be bad.

streakybacon · 24/11/2013 17:12

Thanks morethan

The work experience thing has been going on for over a year. He's on a programme for students with additional needs and disabilities, run through the local authority, and ds has had a few placements already. Started off an hour a week in the project office, then ten weeks of one morning a week at the local metrology labs, a similar one at the library and a week's block at a big science museum, helping with school groups Grin. This new one is to help with science lessons at a local special school - I'm phoning them in the morning to discuss but it's very exciting Grin.

The trouble with our home ed life at the moment is that there's too much non-academic stuff going on and it's harder to motivate ds to knuckle down to subject work. The hormones and eczema just add to the joy Wink.

"Streakybacon"

I know where you are coming from with the non - academic stuff, dd is the same.
This morning she started at 9am with piano Practice, short break the Violin lesson, now she is having saxophone lesson from dh, then she'll do singing practice after lunch.
Hopefully there will be a bit of time this afternoon to fit in something academic, but she is still saying all she needs to study is Maths, English and Geography.

Maths - to make sure she's been paid enough
English - to sign autographs and read contracts.
Geography - to be able to find her way to gigs/ concerts.

She is so funny, I know I shouldn't laugh but I can't help it Grin

streakybacon · 25/11/2013 12:08

She'll go far, that one Wink
