Thank you for all the responses on my last post...I am now at peace with my gut feeling to just follow his lead and not try to pretend to understand how he learns but just trust that he does and will.
This leads to my next question...at the moment he has access to some specialist support which we pay for through me working...if I home school I simply can't afford these as options -to be honest I don't know if anything that he has specialist support for is helping him or not. (He currently has access to Occupational Therapy, Music Therapy and a social skills support group.) He has been with the triple s group for 4 years and to be honest I am not too concerned if this goes as it has made pretty much zero difference to him and he is very indifferent to going. He loves music therapy so would be gutted to see that go and OT...I just don't know with this one. One side of me says this may be his only chance of writing, of coping with sensory input, of gaining a multitude of physical skills that he doesn't currently have some of which he may wish to have and some of which he may not need (for example he may never want to ride a bike or scooter where as he may want to be able to keep his balance and maintain enough stamina to complete tasks and ultimately he may want to be able to write or not. I don't know how important it is to get his muscle memory and sensory integration tackled now or whether it will be just as effective down the line done as and when he desires to get intervention if that makes sense.

Hello Yawning

I am sorry but I am unable to help but suggest you post this in sen if you haven't already.
I know its a H.ed issue but there may be people who can advise.
It would be a shame for your ds to miss out on the things he enjoys.
If you aren't able to find any help with the music therapy and you pm me I may be able to give you some short term suggestions, depending on what helps. I am by no way an expert here, but will help if I can.

I don't know about the other therapies you mention, but Occupational Therapy is accessible via the NHS. My daughter was referred by one of her doctors.

Do you know the HE-Special list? he-special.org.uk There are some very well-informed people there and I am sure this subject is often discussed!

Hi thank you for your answers, I will try the SEN board as well thanks.
I am not in the UK.
Morethanpotatoprints...the music therapy helps him to regulate, he particularly responds to tribal beats which when he is high intensity they can use to match his mood and then slow it down to help him to also slow down and calm down if that makes sense. He has a great sense of rhythm and responds really well to this. For the Occupational Therapy there is nothing at all in our town, we would need to travel about an hour and a half round trip plus pay for the sessions, I am not sure we could afford to do this. Saracen thank you for the link to the Special List, I haven't had a look but hopefully there will be something I can gain from it even though outside of the UK.

ohhhh I didn't realise you weren't in the UK. Perhaps there are homeschool and/or special needs forums for your country which could help?
