Private tuition for a HE child?

I am a teacher and I privately tutor after school. I love it. Next year DD2 is going to be starting school and as I only teach 2 days a week I was considering something for the other days. I don't want any more teaching days as I am keen to pick my DDs up from school as often as possible. I wondered if HEing parents ever employ tutors to help out in a certain subject which they don't feel quite so confident in teaching themselves? If so, where did you look to find a tutor? How did you pick the one that was right for you?

Just to make it clear, this is not an advertisement for work! Just trying to work out how to get into this area.

Many TIA

I have a literacy tutor for my ds. She was recommended through the local dyslexia association as ds is dyslexic. I will be getting him a maths tutor too as I am crap at maths and cannot explain even the simplest of things to him!!

Ian currently on the cusp of removing dd1 from school. I would not even consider it if I didn't have a fantastic neighbour/ex deputy head teacher who already has a working relationship with dd1 who is willing to help make sure dd1 gets a decent education. He is the father of a friend of mine from years ago.

Haven't used tutoring yet, but wider family-based courses are really popular here among our HE group.

I home ed and am also an ex teacher. I used a science tutor for DS for a while. Don't forget that a lot of home ed is done on a shoestring budget. Rather than aiming for a 1-1 tuition, I would recommend offering a group and only charging about £4 per child. That would give you a much better uptake. HTH.

I home ed (have done from the beginning and eldest is 12) and I am also a private tutor. The agency I use for my own tutoring work (in London) does provide tutors for home educators as well. So it may be worth checking some agencies.

In addition, in London anyway, there is a huge increase in the number of people home educating and I have noticed on all the email lists I am on, lots and lots of requests from people looking for tutors. However, the vast majority of them are looking for a tutor to take a group (for cost reasons). Most are looking for recommendations too so word of mouth is important.
