handwriting help

Just wondered if anyone had any tips.

Letters are mostly formed ok but vary in size and some that should be small are large. I can't read her writing as no gaps between words and spelling is awful. I am tackling the spelling but don't know about hand writing. I think comprehension in y2/3 put her off writing, as she struggles here. I have got her to do little things like labels, lists, diaries but wanted something a bit bigger / maybe working up to a full page. Also would like her to eventually write meaningful sentences with good grammar. I don't just want her to copy from something. Any suggestions please!!!!!
Anybody not familiar with my posts she is 8 would be y4.

maybe do some arm swinging type games with beanbags or balls before you start?
then perhaps some of those letter exercises where you do a line of one letter, joining them up, filling the space between one line.... like all ooooo or aaaaaa.
show her how to fill one line with small letters and two with big, then do some letter exercises with one big one small, like ololololololo for example. Then she could colour them in.
Just some suggestions.

Thanks Nelly.

I think maybe I should get some of the exercises they did in infants and maybe go back to these. Sometimes it seems like she missed a huge proportion of writing lessons, but school always said she was average/ above average. If that is the case I'll show my backside in Debenhams.
Sorry if I sound a bit stupid but how does the swinging arm exercise help? Is it just to loosen muscles.

yes I think it's to get the arm free and loose and moving from the shoulder....
do you remember doing some beanbag games in infants? I think that was the idea of them.
I think schools don't have as much time for handwriting as they used to.
I do some colouring and letter games with my dd who is 13 and way behind.
Mind you she is good on a keyboard.....
I remember doing alot of quite precise colouring in...my school was mad for it and we all had lovely handwriting in the end.
we also did alot of tracing perfect handwriting, I think it was 'marion richardson' have a google!
