Home education beginner in Birmingham - looking for groups.

As it says really! I've spent hours trawling the web for groups, have found one yahoo group which I've requested to join and that is about it for web activity! There is a website that hasn't been updated in a few months and I'm not sure what that means...

DS1 is turning 3 at the end of September so I'm looking for pre-school groups mostly - to build links for when he is infant school and to get to know other home-edding mums.

Realistically he'll be going to nursery for 3 half days a week (if I can find one that will allow such a radical option!) from December for a while, as DC3 is due between Christmas and New Year and I think I'll need some practical support with 3 under 3.5! I don't have any family nearby and can't see any other way to be practical about the chaos and stay sane.

Can anyone help me find an active group, or individuals in my area?

Send me a pm or an email to this Worcs HE group, which will come straight to my inbox and I'll tell you where to find information about what is happening in the area.

I know most folks are ether for or agents Steiner but hear me out.
A lot of people who intend to home ed will use a Steiner toddler group and even there kindergarten using child care vouchers.
I am not a fan of Steiner but made some good friends at the local toddler group.

I never did home ed stuff tell DD was 4 1/2 ish.
Good luck.

Hi all,

New user here. We deregistered our daughter today from her school due to the fact she has struggled to settle in there. We really want her to be active socially now she will be learning from home and was wondering if any users could advise of any local groups that we could attend and/or social events where home ed kids get to mix with others. We are limited travelwise- we dont have a car and are on a low income. We live in Cotteridge/Kings Norton.

as I said a couple of posts up, if you send me an email to this address it will come into my inbox, or send me a PM and I will tell you details of where to find home educators locally.

And you would all be very welcome to join the Mumsnet HE FB page and talk to us there, and we can show you the local HE groups on FB. If you apply to join the FB page please do send a message to me there explaining why you want to join, so I know it's you

Although looking now, I think you may already have found the Home Ed Birmingham FB page? I'll talk to you there.

Hi all,

I'm also having difficulty contacting HE groups on Yahoo. I've contacted HELM on a few occasions and haven't heard back from them. My 5 year old daughter and I live in the Great Barr area of the city and would love to join a local group for social activities, education tips etc. Any support would be much appreciated.

julienoshoes · 01/01/2014 03:08

Phatfish send me a pm and I'll get you sorted with HELM, the yahoo group and the newsletter...and the FB groups if you want to join them too.

phatfish4 · 02/01/2014 07:49

Thank you for responding to my post julienoshoes, re Helm. I've only just joined Mumsnet so I hope you get this message as still trying to work out what all the abbreviations mean.

Hi
I am also habing a problem contacting the yahoo groups. I live in Hall Green and have a daughter who currently attends nursery.

I am looking into homeschooling as I believe it may be the best way in order for my daughter to reach her full potential. However I wish to speak to people who have been there and know what it's like in practice.

I have tried HELM and HE-UK but have had no response, it just says membership pending.

Hi

I'm looking into homeschooling an was hoping to find some groups that I could get in contact with... My main concerns revolve around the whole social side of things how I can ensure my son has a well balanced social life... If anyone could help direct me to some groups based in the birmingham area that would be appreciated

Hello,

I have 4 children, DS1 is 6, DS2 is 5, DS3 is 2 and DD is 6 months old. We recently moved to West Heath/Kings Norton area and as a result the eldest two changed schools. I don't feel they are settling in and the school is very groupy - the parents at the school gate aren't friendly either! I am seriously considering home educating but am very worried about the socialising aspect. Has anyone got any info on groups etc?

Thanks :) x

julienoshoes · 26/02/2014 23:27

Send me a pm and I'll supply links to the yahoo groups and FB groups for the area and info about where to get the newsletter, when i get back on the main computer, rather than my phone
