im currently lusting after the my pals are here series which to get all the books in the collection

so 1 then plus 1a is £55
but the teachers guide is shocking £75!

tried googling see if its really needed.

went on well trained mind forum and they keep mentioning home instructers manual which seems way cheaper than teachers guide.

problem here is they rebranded the old primary maths books and launched the my pals are here series.

part of me thinks blimey at such a low level maybe i dont really need a guide however i cant seem to see any answer books and some said singapore special technique and really need the guides to full understand the programme!

I have no idea as I have never used or seen singapore maths - try asking on an HE yahoo list - the SonlightUK list for example will have people who can answer your question (I think!)

As it is such a lot of money I think it would be a good idea to try and look at a paper copy of it/talk to a fellow HEr about how they find it - its a lot of money just for a maths programme.

I love My Pals Are Here, but started at 2 or higher for my four. If you have the Pupil's Book, I cannot imagine that you would need a teacher's guide at that level! The Singapore 'system' is well explained in the Pupil Book. Just start off with the Pupil Book and the workbooks - you don't need the homework books unless your dc really seems to need extra practice. If you need anything else you'll find out along the way.

Pupil Books 1A, 1B, and workbooks 1A1, 1A2, 1B1, 1B2 will cost you £45 plus p&p from mathsnoproblem (in this country).

Ichthus Resources also sell it - I dont know how prices compare though.

Oh yes, have had great service from Ichthus, who are home educators themselves.

aliportico · 19/08/2012 16:31

They call the workbooks Practice Books, I think.

Thanks guys thats really helpful.

shes just done year 1 into year 2

but maths is a problem area so thinking maybe best start with1.

she hates maths and wanted textbooks that look fun.

read good reveiws about my pals.

I did think surly at lower level wouldent need teachers guide.

wonder why they make it so stupidly expensive.

Think confusion with singapore is

theres my pals

and seperate primary maths which doesnt look as fun and colourful which most home schools people in states use.

It appears the home education guide which is cheaper than teachers is not made by singapore its written by sonlight.

what I wasent sure of is if the pupil books and workbooklets contained the answers?

as things like galore park have anwer book.

Will order the 1 I think.

it says to be completed in a year.

wondering if could fit both into year 2 unsure.

as its extra help with maths I dont mind going a year behind as read they quite challanging compared to some other curriculums.

so far this summer we done 2lets workbooklets which she found easy and boring mayb have started too low wanted to know where her weak points were.

we joined maths factor summer camp for bargain price of £5.99 until end of sept and shes loving that.

but from september wondering how best to help think combination of computer based learning and singapore with maths aids sounds good as shes a very practical.
