My son has been at a school for two terms where he has done virtually no work and the environment has been very liberal with practically no rules.DS thinks he has been deschooled as he's so relaxed he's horizontal. I doubt I'll do anything with him over summer so can I take January to September as DS'ing or am I fooling myself?

He is beginning to get a little out of control and I feel some structure may be the answer...

DH thinks he has been deschooled, not DS!

Hi Colleger, I have posted about uncertainties about deschooling then read other threads where it is said that all families differ and theres not one particular way that works. I think if you feel structure is needed then perhaps just introduce a little every day. Did you decide on fully autonomous, I can't remember. I would like to but without all the family on board I couldn't see it working. As far as deschooling goes I also heard it was of most benefit to those having experienced negative influences at school, which I believe your ds did, if I'm not mistaken. I would ask what he intended to do at certain times if nothing more than to get him to think about what he wants and how to spend his time. Sorry if this is completely irrelevant. Just wanted to offer support.
