Can anyone recommend a curriculum for my little one?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a curriculum for my 7 year old daughter. she has a developmental delay and is learning letter sounds/names at the moment. She's starting to read very simple words like cat and dog. She's finding maths extreamly hard, even at the most basic level.

She likes working with me and is interested in most things. She's not at all interested in making things but loves writing stories.

What should I look for in a curriculum? and what age should I go for, her actual age or mental age? There are areas of her development that are average, and others are very delayed, so it's hard to know what level to get.

Have you change your mind about school again?
Does she like doing things on the computer? As you could use education city or American program time4learning. You can set the levels on each to what would suit your daughter.

Hi, I still haven't heard back from any of the schools. I'm hoping to get her a flexi school place, but I'm still not 100% sure.

She does like working on the computor, she likes her Readingeggs.

Have you seen Calvert homeschool's Verticy program? It is a "school in a box" type curricula, is complete - you don't need to buy anything else, and designed for children with developmental delays.

It is American, but we have used the Calvert academic for one year, and it is was not a problem for us.

Im no good at links, but Ill try. www.verticylearning.org/

Thanks kitsonkittykat. That does look good. Smile It says the maths begins at 3rd grade though. Isn't that age 8-9?

I love Sonlight - I'm using my phone right now and can't do links but google it and it comes up. We also use a variety of other stuff (also often American).

You could try Sonlight core A with additional stuff for English (what Americans call language arts LA) and maths. For your dd with maths you might get on well with rightstart math and All about spelling/reading for LA. (I think your dd would love and do well with those)
I use British stuff too (schofield and sims mostly) but I also love using American stuff because it's written for HErs (well actually American homeschoolers....!)

You are welcome to pm me and I'll try to help - happy to chat on the phone too if that would help.

I can also recommend Sonlight, it IS religious, but you can cut out the religion, iykwim. I just had a look at verticy math. I have a friend who used the Verticy program for their child, so I will ask them what they did, I agree, it does look like there is nothing under 3rd grade for math.

Sorry I cant do pretty links! If you click on the Calvert homeschool curriculum tab, and then on each picture of the books, it allows you to browse the text books.

You can also have a chat with an advisor, if you look on the site, to put together a package. You dont have to buy it after, but it gives you a good idea of what they do. Ill try and link you to the samples for kindergarten/first grade math. You can swap math grade in and out within Calvert, and dont have to buy the math at all if y ou dont want to. Gretchen is really lovely and Im sure she can explain it better than I can.

For what its worth, Calvert materials taught both my children to read, and the online supplementals are really very good. We love Brain Pop!
