Just a silly thought

After striking a chord with Colleger , if you excuse the pun, I was wondering if there were any other HE families out there who enjoyed singing. Then I started to think about previous comments about how HE is not widely publicised. I then thought about the Milatary Wives and their up lifting songs. A National choir of HE dcs would surely gain recognition. Then I woke up and thought don't be so soft morethanpotatoprints (I must shorten that), how on earth could you get something like that together. Does anybody know how to get in touch with Gareth whats his face.

Can you imagine that whacky AE bunch turning up on time, if at all?!

Only joking AE'ers, we love you! Wink

Surely that's one for HesFes...
My DDs would LOVE to join!
They will probably insist on 100 verses of Old MacDonald
("and on that farm he had a pterodactyl E-I-E-I-O")

Flussymummy. Absolutely classic. I know I'm a dreamer, its always been a problem of mine. Sometimes my far fetched dreams have become reality, but alas wouldn't know where to start with this. I have a vision and unfortunately lack the action required, lol.

Have you heard of Young Voices? DD1 did this with school before she left and she loved it. I emailed the people in charge and they're happy for a home ed choir to do it, not just school! What area are you in Colleger?

Thank you catnipkitty, I will have a look at them. I am in the North West, which area are you in? What I would really like to be involved with is a National choir just for HE kids, organised by HE parents, maybe meeting somewhere in the middle of the country. I said I was a dreamer

HesFes has music workshops all week, children can bring their own instruments, or play drumkit etc provided by one of the bands that play. There is also a singing element to the workshops for the vocalists amongst them.

This is the way my youngest dd first went on stage.
After daily musical workshops-led by the lovely Bongo Steve-there is a fabulous final evening show put on by all the youngsters, usually with a new song plus an old favourite-to hear them singing/playing "Another Brick in the Wall" is heart warming and usually brings tears to my eyes!

There is also usually a choir workshop through the week too, for all ages-and they perform on the last night too.

The highlight of the week, for me is the Children's Caberet. Children put their own names down to do whatever performance they want. So you get three year olds singing Baa Baa Black Sheep with enthusiasm and rightous support-to some beautiful instrumentals on a variety of instruments, vocalists, groups of teens doing some really funny sketches, comedians trying out their jokes, and gymnastics.....to name but a few of the acts I have seen over the year.
It's tremendous, with a wonderfully supportive audience.

It changed my daughters life, when she plucked the courage to sing 'Mad World' a ccapella, and bought the house down! She has since started a career in music and the community is endlessly supportive of her.

I love HesFes!

Wow! Off to book our tickets! It sounds lovely.

flussymummy · 12/06/2012 15:48

Booked! Anyone else joining us? :)
I promise not to let them sing all 100 verses...

Grin

Come and find me (and Fiona Nicholson) in the 'Home Education Discussions' workshops where I'll be every morning from 11am. Fiona and I are running those with a friend of ours.
There are other experienced home educators, who are also Mumsnetters there too usually.

flussymummy · 12/06/2012 16:36

Fantastic- really looking forward to it!

Look out for George Barnett at HesFes, he'll have a good performance spot. Always home educated, he is a brilliant musician-he can play so many instruments really well. He writes, plays all the instruments and produces all his own stuff. And is a really lovely lad.
He'll be helping with the children's music workshops again, I am certain.

"BBC introducing" were talking about George today:

"Some people are so talented it can make you angry. George Barnett is one such person but I'll forgive him because he certainly knows how to write a tune or two.

The 18 year old musician has already been music for 15 years (yes, since he was three) and can pick up pretty much any instrument including the piano, bass, trumpet and guitar. In 2008 he even won the UK national title for young drummer of the year.

Taken from his first EP, Sierra Planes (written, produced and recorded by George), No I.D.ea calls on all of his talents. It?s a raucous indie-ska tune, rough around the edges but perfectly assembled. There?s so much of George?s music online, you can get easily lost in it and I?d encourage you to do so if only to marvel at his wide range of styles and skills."
