Apart from needing childcare? Wink

But really, I'm not sure I get it or what benefits there are to it.

I flexischool my daughter and like the support I get. I do not use it for childcare as my daughter does one full and 2 half days. The half days I hand around as its too far to go home and back.
I get peace of mind that she has the choice of knowing what a school is like and having regularity. It is also a way for me to monitor her progress.

Some people flexischool because they feel they don't have the resources to teach certain subjects and so their children may just go in to school for French and Science (for example).
I think it can be quite good if done well, unfortunately though most schools aren't set up for it and so it doesn't work so well then.

Do all state schools have to offer this option?

morethan - my understanding is that it is up to the individual school - none offer it round here according to LA.

I don't think there are any around here. I only know about them as I keep abreast of recent developments in education.
I would choose this option as the time away from school would allow me to include subjects either not covered or not taught often enough. I refer to music, history, Geography. I suppose you could always tutor extra lessons in subjects the school is always excellent at. In dd's school 80 odd % leave ks2 with a level 5 in Maths wheras for literacy it is 66% reaching a level 4.
I do believe in these times of accountability and free choice in so many areas of life that parents should have more choice in their childrens education.
