LA pestering

Hi all, new here. We took our eldest daughter out of school last year. She just was not getting on with anyone and was severely depressed. There was no other option for us and really wish that we had done it much sooner.
Now we have a problem in that the LA keep pestering us for a letter to say that she is being home educated. They want a copy of the letter of de-registration that we sent the school????
I hope that I am competely correct in saying that, apart from informing the LA of her Home Ed.(if they ask), I really do not HAVE to let the LA know that I have taken her out of school and this is definitely down to the School. They SHOULD have done this??? Am I right? Is there an ulterior motive for them asking us for this (we're starting to get really paranoid). We live in Wales by the way.

Are the 2007 Elective home Ed quidelines valid for Wales too? They are here

If so, then I suggest you print off a copy, highlight the paragraph where it says the school has to do the informing, and send it to the LA. If it's not in there, then get the legal paragraph that says the school has to do the informing, print that off and highlight the paragraph. "Dear Mr LA man, as you see here, my responsibility was to inform the school that I was deregistering my child; which I have done. I am sure the school will be able to give you a copy of the letter, as per their legal responsibility". heh heh heh.

I promise you that what has happened is that someone in the school threw the letter away not realising what they were supposed to do with it, and now they and the LA are panickily trying to re-create the paper trail in case they get into trouble.

Whether you help them or not is entirely up to you ;)

I've known several cases in Wales where the LA categorises children as "Child Missing Education" if the parent doesn't fill in an official LA form for home education. It's a rubbish policy and is not the law.

The relevant regulations and guidelines for Wales are here

Hi, yes, thanks for the replies. Think your right about them losing it - OR even discarding it as they are so condascending it is unbelievable.

I have had around 30 phone calls from the school since de-regestering her. They have tried all ways to get her back. The sad fact is, they are not really interested in her as a pupil but as a number to boost their points to get a higher score in these ridiculous tables they now have.

I had yet another call from the local Ed. Officer yesterday. I actually have known her personally for most of my life and she was as nice as pie to me and asked me if I would be so kind as to pen another letter fro her so that the her bosses would get off her back!!! Ridiculous. I almost felt sorry for her - almost!

Cheers all and best wishes to all you fellow Home Edders out there.

I'm an Edder - are you an Edder? Yes - a Home Edder.
