Reading eggs

Hi,

I'm thinking of subscribing to reading eggs for my 7 year old daughter. She isn't reading at all at the moment. She can recognise 3/4 of the letters and sounds, but has difficulty blending them to make words.
I wasn't going to start this until her speech improved, but her little friend has started it and her mum says she's really enjoying it.
Do you think it'd be worth it for Lucy? I noticed it went from age 3, so it obviously starts off very easy. She loves using the computor so she should see it as a game rather than learning.
Have any of you tried it? I'd like to know what you think of it. Smile

Hello
Our daughters love Reading Eggs :) They are nearly 8. 1 started on reading eggs and has now progressed to Reading Eggspress as is much more fluent, the other went straight to reading Eggspress as is a very fluent reader. I've found both fantastic and they love it. I'd really recomend it. Plus you get a free trial for 2 weeks and a discount if you're a member of EO.

Look out for discount codes for extra free weeks - they seem to circulate a lot of the yahoo lists.
I have never investigated reading eggs myself though :)

Do you read lots with her?
I have just posted my reading mantra on another thread so will do so her as well!
Read read read lots and lots of really great books and stories, poems etc. It is so valuable - my dd has speech diffs and probable dyslexia yet through endless listening to stories she will say things like "Hmm I dont think that is realistic!" or "I (re)member that poem, its in that other book as well".
She uses loads of great vocab words in context as well - all learnt from stories.

It's been brilliant for my 5 year old who was being seriously let down by the crap offerings at his school. In the space of a few weeks he is now able to properly decode words and has grown in confidence so much. Can't recommend it enough.

It starts off at whatever is the appropriate level as they get the child to sit an assessment first. My DS started on Map 6 of 12.

On this blog somewhere she talks about Reading Eggs and there's a code for about a month's free trial. It really is worth trying. Smile

Thanks everyone. I'll hopefully get that free trial. It sounds really good! Smile

Your welcome

mummyloveslucy · 10/03/2012 15:38

Lucy's started it this afternoon. She LOVES it! She didn't want to stop it for lunch. I'm supprised at how quickly she's learning. It's fantastic. Grin

Where did it start her off?

gaelicsheep · 10/03/2012 17:05

And yes, it really is fantastic. I do wish there was something as good for maths. There are a few of course, but nothing that touches it. I hope the Reading Eggs people realise there's a big gap in the market ready to be filled.

mummyloveslucy · 10/03/2012 17:42

Well, I lied about her age. She's just turned 7, but hasn't even started to learn to read yet, so I said she was 4. The level seemed just right for her, not too hard, but made her think a bit.

Oh brilliant news! So pleased.
There is xl maths- have you seen it?

mummyloveslucy · 10/03/2012 17:43

Lol

gaelicsheep · 10/03/2012 20:42

Did it not get her to do a test? That's how DS started. When they've got three questions wrong the test stops and it starts them at the appropriate place. Sounds like it's pitched right though in any case - hope she continues enjoying it. Smile

mummyloveslucy · 11/03/2012 19:33

I think that's if they have any experience of reading. Because Lucy doesn't, it started her off at the beginning.
Saying that, it's becomming a lot harder for her. She has to keep finding the word Sam amoungst other words. If there is a wor like was, she often clicks that. Then gets upset that she's wrong.

Subscribed to Reading Eggs for DS1 and 2 ages 5 and 6. Huge hit!
When they finish what I've asked them to do they sit together in the 'playroom' and do all the other fun stuff, DS3 joins in (he is 3) for the stories and games.
I think it's great :)

t.livingsocial.com/deals/279578?ref=email-jp&rpi=51691866 Another £18 deal here since I see the other one has run out :) My 2.5 and 5 year olds are loving Reading Eggs and have taken advantage of this offer to make it affordable to us :)

kipperandtiger · 22/03/2012 13:23

Thanks for the posts everyone, I saw a leaflet about a free trial and wondered if it was any good. Might check it out!

kipperandtiger · 22/03/2012 13:31

Great to hear your daughter is enjoying it and benefiting from it, OP!
