Hi everyone!
On the advice of another member (thank you ommmward) I have started this threat for others who are also dealing with the fear of home schooling. We have just decided to remove out 12 yr old son from school. He is borderline dyslexic which seems to mean "yes you need help, but no we don't have the budget to give it" the stress he had at school has made him suffer from headaches daily and he has become a lost soul :( We feel that if we don't support him, he will end up going off the rails and we really don't want that. So we are going to home school him. We collected him from school yesterday and made the decision. Any advice would be great as we are worried that we can get into trouble or how to make sure we do the best for him. Also, we are from Swindon Wiltshire and would really appreciate any others who are in the same situation, also are there any social groups for other children in our sons position? Thanks everyone!

Sounds like you have been a great support to her, Saracen. And how lovely that your children were able to have a nice day together Smile.

Hi Saracen
Which LA is this out of interest?? I haven't had any contact from the school or the LA since de-registering our son, but I am anticipating having to do battle as the overall impression I get is that they can be a bit naughty when it comes to the law.

It must be so hard for your friend! after all, we are only trying to do the best for our children. Our days are going to involve a lot of hands on learning, as our son is a kinaesthetic learner and thanks to Toffeewhirl Thanks we have used a website called Trickykidz.co.uk to find out lots of ways to help him.

Still........ why do the LA's give everyone such a hard time?? makes me mad Angry

Swindon generally gives us no hassle, birdieswifey (and if you get it, let me know).

Thank you SDeuchars,
I can't wait to kind of get the red tape bit over and done with, so I can concentrate on our son. Smile

How about East Sussex, SDeuchars?

Have been wondering again about online schools like Interhigh. Have you looked into that, birdieswifey?

Has anyone had any experience with them?

ToffeeWhirl · 11/03/2012 16:11

Although if your DS is a kinaesthetic learner, an online school might not be the best idea Wink.

Hi Toffee,

No we are planning on using games, learning cards and practical techniques. It's a bit tricky as he is 12, but once we can get him engaged, I think the written bit will flow in time. I am just jotting ideas for a learning plan. He does enjoy reading a creative writing, so we are going to pick a really good book from the library and once he has read it, we are going to get him to do things like re-write the end etc. Apart from that, I get it's just trying bits out. I am quite looking forward to getting stuck in myself lol Grin
