Hi, Im new here... waves

I have a 13 year old son, who is somehwere on the autistic spectrum. He has had many issues with school... been battling with them for nearly 5 years now, and he has now just finally flipped. He has had the last 2 weeks off, because of lots of issues, and now the edcational welfare people are coming on ednesday of next week.

My questions are

What do i say
And I guess, the most important one... do any of you know any online schools that my son could register with, as he is high functioning, so could easily do the full amount of GCSE's if he had the right help and support
How do i tell them he is so unhappy and I think it is their fault, without putting their backs up
have I any legal right to deny them access at all, or until at least I have lots of info to back up my claims and reasons why he has been out of school for so long

and the most important one of all, I guess, are there any online schools out there that could help him? he is pretty high functioning, and could easily do the full range of GCSE's with the right help and support.

Thanks in advance

You could simply deregister him from school in advance of their visit. Then you tell them that he is deregistered and no longer their responsibility.

If you deregister, you do not have to tell them that. If you want to tell them, you do not have to worry about putting their backs up because you do not have to deal with them again.

have I any legal right to deny them access at all, or until at least I have lots of info to back up my claims and reasons why he has been out of school for so long

If he is not a registered pupil at a school, they have no legal right to access and you do not have to justify yourself to them. If they were to proceed with action under the truancy legislation, you would still have to answer that for the time he was registered but it would seem pointless of them to go ahead once he is deregistered.

The Home Education Exams website and Yahoo! list have a lot of people with experience of taking GCSEs and IGCSEs as independent candidates. Most people do not use an online school - they get the books and past papers and work through them themselves.

thanks for that. I have had this boy out of school before, and so know the deal with home edded childern, but he says he wants to go back, as I am doisabled, so he doesnt want to be a burden on me, and also so he doesnt lose contact with his friends. I have messaged you back.

thanks for your time xx

There are three online schools that I know of in the uk (just google online schools uk) I think inter high is the largest.

So are you looking for a flexischooling arrangement? Or education other than at school (EOTAS) provided by the LA?
