Which Primary curriculum to choose

I'd really appreciate some advice on this. We've only just started to consider Homeschooling. Although we're English we have been living overseas for quite a long time. We're due to return home in December but to a new area. I've been doing a lot of research into schools in the area and there are lots of outstanding schools but.... they're all completely full! The local council have been absolutely no use to us. I've asked for advice and they told me of two schools which have places. My husband is in the UK at the moment and went to visit them. The first one was a complete nightmare to get to and the headteacher of the other told him that they too were full and weren't accepting anymore children. There is another school with places but has a poor reputation for SATS results and pupil behaviour, so we are consdiering keeping our son (who is Year 2) at home until a place at a better school becomes available. As we intend sending him back to school I'd like to follow a structured curriculum which is in line with what's going on in schools. Does anybody have any recommendations that I could look at? Sorry for such a long post but I'm at my wits end. Every school I phone is full and I really don't know what else to do.

Thanks

Hi djin, didn't want to leave you unanswered! I'm sorry you're in this position, HE is great but not I guess if you're forced into it. Hope you end up enjoying it.

There are lots of great curriculums (curricula?) out there, I like Sonlight and Ambleside Online for book ideas. Both are thorough but not sure how closely matched to the National Curriculum. Have you looked at the NC website? They have guidelines for each stage. I'm sure it will be enough to keep up with whatever reading, writing and maths he's done so far.

Of course it wouldn't hurt for a while (if not indefinitely!) to take things easy, just relax and enjoy the time off. Good luck!
