How much work in 3 months

Had a meeting last week with 2 very lovely ladies fron EHE last week and they have said they will be back in 3 months to see how we are getting on. I am keeping a daily diary of what we do and all her work but how much will they be expecting to see?

I have no idea how to gauge what you have done in 3 months - depends on their age a bit.

I would just keep a tab of some of the things you have done, places you have been and keep a few bits to show them (keeping everything they do in that time would be too much !).

To be honest they have no right to expect anything or even a second visit in such a short time. But if you don't mind then just use it as a chance to show them how your kids are thriving and having fun learning about hte world they live in (and that doesn't always generate written evidence).

I have no idea. Do you really need to provide them with proof of what you have been doing?

If so, a list of books you have read, fieldtrips, topics? Just very briefly after all if you are chatting to them, you can discuss it. Seems a bit OTT coming round again after just 3 months

Not bothered about them coming around - they were really nice, helpful and pro choice (if thats the way to put it) people. I could send a report but it seems easier to just see them face to face. Just wondering how much people do? We don't do formal work every day - some days she just makes slide shows on the computer. She has learning difficulties and is no where near the level most children of her age are. I have previous statements, reports from school etc to back up that she learns very slowly! So just the diary and maybe some photos of things we've done then?

I have to say,i've read such negative things about the lea and home edders rights - the whole not letting them in the house thing, etc etc, that i was really nervous but they were soooo helpful. They came armed with a list of useful websites, local groups and were keen to add any other information i may have found useful to their list. We're in Devon btw.

I'm so pleased to hear you have a positive LA. I know they do exist, and indeed have met several over the years. Sadly it is not always the way it goes, but I suspect the very bad ones get the most attention and are remembered, whilst the good ones continue to quietly get on with the job.
Sometimes also it is not the Home Ed Liason bod on the ground who is the problem, sometimes it is the powers that be, above them.

I am also aware that sometimes it is a postcode lottery with judgements made on where you live in a locality and the parents education and the way they speak etc.

Long may your experience be positive! Smile

my dd is 6 and does about 2 hours a day reading/writing/maths, and then chooses something fun for the afternoon (if we aren't going to home ed groups or a trip). Mostly she'll do baking, art, craft, or just playing. I keep workbooks that she's done, some of her art, a record of the books she's read and then take photo's of the other stuff we do and blog it. Our LA lady is lovely and is always happy to look through the blog to see what we've been up to and then just has a chat with dd and me to make sure were both happy and all is well.
I reckon just some samples of the things your dd has done in the three months will be fine, and your diary. That should give them a good idea of how things are going and you can always fill in the gaps just by talking through what you've been up to and what your plans are. Glad you have a good LA, make so much difference doesn't it :)
