New to idea, Home ed at senior age?

My DDs both have ASD and my eldest is very stressed by changes and anything out of her control. We have decided that for this reason and others we would like to do home education from year 7 onwards.
Is this a bad idea? am i better to start earlier? I want her to get the social interaction for as long as possible so would rather not do it too early.
She has a high IQ and already working 3 years above her peer group.
Do you find alot of the stuff online? what about exams?
TIA

Hi Lisa,
next door home eds her three- they are 14, 11 and 9. I have never met such confident, happy, polite kids. they were taken out 3 years ago due to religious persecution and are doing great.

You can register with colleges/ schools etc to sit GCSEs and if you want to go down a very organised route , 'curriculum in a box' is very good. It's about £500 for the year and covers all the bits they would do in school in that year.

RE: social interation, could you see if there any other home-edders nearby that you could meet up with?

I know a few people that home ed their children and i know there is a swimming class that meet.
We too are doing it for religious reasons too.

I thought you might be Wink

There are quite a few round my way that do it but we are in Surrey.

If you felt comfortable with it, I could put you in touch with next door as her kids are doing really well and I'm sure she'd have lots of advice.

Exams info here. Was going to ask about ages but see from other thread that DD1 is 8. It's a bit early to be thinking about exams (even if she is working at 11yo level - there are much more interesting things to do than take GCSEs). An alternative that some EHEers use is the Open University. My two started with it at 13 and 14.

My DD (now 18) was EHE throughout and also has AS traits. I'd be inclined to say start EHE asap. Being EHE does not mean getting no social interaction - try finding a local group (where are you based?) and see what is going on in your area.

There is a Yahoo! group for EHE Christians if that would help.

wat does EHE stand for?
