We started yesterday and I need a good structure, but not quite sure how to go about it.

Our end result is going to be GCSEs but how do I know if I am teaching her what she needs?

For example, she is reading the Roald Dahl book Boy, how could this be used for English? Or is there a site that gives me the reading she should be doing for GCSE in a few years?

Our timetable is going to be structured - Maths/English everyday and then RE/Geog/History etc once each a week

So even though I have done quite a lot of research my basic question in WHERE DO I START!!!!

Thanks

Get hold of the books for the national curriculum, KS3 or whatever level you feel she is at. I'm doing the same for my DS - he's 12 and I think KS3, which covers years 7, 8 and 9 is the right level for him. The GSCE coursework KS4 normally starts after that. WH Smith sells the books - I bought Letts although I'm sure there are other makes. We've got maths, English, French, Geography, History, Science. I think the English book has a list of some books being used in the NC although remember with the change of government especially if you're DD won't be taking GCSEs for a couple of years this might all change. I know from speaking with some friend's DCs in school that they're currently reading one of the books mentioned in the Letts KS3 English course. Not sure about English books for GCSE. Depending on when you feel your DD is ready to do GCSE I suppose you find out which books are being covered - maybe it differs with different examining boards, I don't know. BBC have an education site with Bitesize revision for all the key stage levels plus loads of other resources for most things. Good luck!

At her age she could do with reading something a little more challanging than Roald Dahl, unless she struggles with her enjoyment of reading.

this might be useful?

Charlotte Sometimes, in particular, is an excellent book and also covers friendships, bullying, and WW2!

Our local library has a good selection of letts books, might be worth borrowing a few before buying

'Boy' isn't a children's book, really, though , Colditz?

CGP books are great and cover all NC subjects and also prep SATS and GCSE papers.

Galore Park do great books, which go up to year 8/9. They go into a bit more depth than NC as they prepare for the Common Entrance exam.
