I have a dream about an HE network in London...

I would form network with other families, teaching the children in small groups, perhaps 4 or 5 in the mornings and then take it in turns to supervise activities in the afternoons, to a museum, a sport or just a runaround climbing trees.

We could divide the teaching - for example I can speak two languages well and could teach English while DP has maths, sciences and a PhD in philosophy. We could maybe contract tutors for other subjects as necessary.

We both have teaching experience.

Does this sort of thing actually happen? If anyone shares my outlook do post!

Would have loved to do something like that but sadly live too far away to join in! We do French and Spanish every week with 2 other families and go to a book club once a month.

Hi there,

I am interested in this kind of thing. I will be back in Reading next year....not London, sorry!

Personally I think Id do this on a flexi basis, maybe 2-3 days a week, 5 days is a bit full on.

I also have teaching experience.

I love the idea of a group of people sharing skills like that....

www.heroesberkshire.co.uk is very inspiring I think and they are expanding at the mo. Think it was started by a lady who was HEing and wanted something a little more structured but not school!

Obviously when you get into thinking in this way, it gets complicated (insurance etc). Guess it depends how formal you are thinking? Would parents drop their kids off in the morns like school? Or do you mean something less formal where all praents share their skills?
I was looking at the idea of starting my own school....big plans I know....but there is a gap for more child led schooling. Govt have a free schools initiative with funding for this atm too!!

Hiya, Where about in London are you based? I have been looking for groups as I am very interested in this but I haven't seen anything

Hi Yamba,

I suppose we were thinking of a timetable of activities, i.e. Tuesdays we taught maths and science to the group, on THursdays they go to x for history and geography, etc.

It could be flexible. Definitely wasn't thinking of getting insurance etc.

Between us we can teach maths, english, languages and sciences but we both work freelance and have a baby, so we'd need to have some time off.

I also think it's very beneficial for children that age to be in small groups, so they can bounce ideas of each other etc.

KiddieCar, we're in Islington, but happy to travel by bus and tube. If you're anywhere near I'll give you my email and we can talk about it.

Thanks for your posts,
