Kitchen makeover - pointless or will it help ?

My kitchen is solid wood from 2003. Shaker style. Walnut colour but due to worktop and floor, looks v v dated but a new one is out of the question. Is a makeover a good idea or am I chucking good money at plastering over the fact it is just old ?
Current plans include new worktop and reconfigured storage to free up work surface and new vinyl
flooring and even that’s £1000.
will it look crap ?

Definitely! My worktops and splashbacks totally transformed my kitchen. And y kitchen wasn’t a great one 🤣

There’s a video doing the rounds about what to pair with wood. Avoid cold concrete, industrial type finishes. Go for warm splashy marbles, was the advice. Same with all the accents- warm tones.

Cupboards are nice imo. I would start by changing the worktop and the floor. Get some samples for the flooring and look at them in place, it will really help. If the worktop and the floor don't make it nice enough for you, you can look at changing the tiles, or covering them. You can have splashbacks to match the worktop, which looks really nice.

If you're on a really tight budget and are willing to get stuck in, consider just covering the worktop and the tiles in microcement. It comes in kits, and the result can be very nice and modern for not very much money at all.

you may be able to cover the tiles with vinyl. The kind where people do a landlord friendly refurb that can be just stripped off when you leave.
worth going for a warmer tile. I don’t actually hate the black with the wood- I’d replace the tiles rather than the worktop, personally.

Although I love wood herringbone, I think your tiles go with your cupboards and they look nice. A new work surface, and some added storage so that everything has a place, will make a massive improvement.

Thanks all. I’ve decided to paint it in Mizzle which is greenish and looks nice on a mock up. I’ll have a look for worktop bow

Just to add, the kitchen we inherited when we bought the place was better quality than we could afford, and I didn't want to replace good quality for bad just for the look, and for something that would wear out. We changed the wall tiles, counter tops, sink, hob, oven and flooring. Still a big project, some of which DH did for us.

Definitely change the worktop ...think that willl make the most difference...
Would then evaluate... I have white sparkly probably too cild for u but a cream/champagne sort of tone... Had to get laminate as ran out of budget but its lasted 10yrs . Now looking to fit similar in quartz
If it's too dear to retile u can paint them ...
Re floor think the grey is too cold with the warmth of the wood how about a lighter stone effect?

I’ve just been looking at a champagne cream quartz effect laminate which I love and they do splash back in it too. I hate those bloody tiles but adored them at the time. We thought they were amazing ! 🥲.

My kitchen is 17 years old. I couldn't afford a new kitchen. I decided to get my kitchen sprayed got new handles and countertops, tap and sink and new tiles. New lino flooring and lovely new light fittings. It turned out so well. Im very happy with it.
