Best value durable paint brands for decorating a whole house

Finally getting around to painting my home and would love to hear personal experiences with different paints.

Originally, I got some testers from Farrow & Ball, but their prices are quite steep so can’t choose this for my whole house.

We have used Valspar in the past for diy and it was okay-ish but could be that our technique just needed some work. It does seem to be more budget friendly. But I am wondering if there are other better quality ones that aren’t too expensive (?) Durability is really important as well. Or different types might work for different rooms (?)

Welcome any pointers.

Thanks this is a useful piece, especially the bit about kitchen/bathroom paints.

Thanks for all your recommendations! Dulux Trade sounds like a good place to start and some of the others mentioned here sound good for bathroom and kitchen.

Dulux (trade only as it’s thicker).
Farrow and Ball. I like modern emulsion for halls, stairs, kitchens and bathrooms. Estate for living rooms. But kids all grown so no finder on walls where estate emulsion is used. Modern is bomb proof. I’m not so keen on dead flat. It feels weird.

Benjamin moore scuff x
I think it cost more than dulux trade but has a better finish and is even more scrubbable apparently. My friend's a decorator and that's what he uses.

I work for a luxury building contractors and he likes LICK or COAT. Can’t say I have personal experience with it though.

Dulux Trade vinyl matt for walls and ceilings and Dulux satinwood for skirtings and doors
Pure brilliant white for the ceilings and woodwork and get our local paint shop to mix any colours for us.
Are you in London OP?

Our local Dulux store has the codes for farrow and ball, so you can get a match of any colour and it’s good quality paint, reasonable price etc.
Little greene is expensive but paints beautiful, and is a tougher finish than farrow.

Our Crown Decorating Centre does as well.

Decorators we have used like to use Crown Trade or Dulux Trade.

If you are in North London I would go to Chris Steven’s - he has 2 shops one in Holloway and the other in Archway. Low prices, big choice and good advice. They’ll mix the Dulux Trade to your colour choice.

I’ve heard Valspar from B and Q is good, as long as you have the premium version mixed. My decorator told me that.
