Soft furnishing dye - any experiences?

Hi - has anyone had experience of dyeing soft furnishings? I want to dye a chaise lounge, it’s currently a gold/yellow colour and want to dye it dark blue. Has anyone done this before? The material is velvety feel, not sure exactly as it’s second hand.
thanks

The problem you may have is that areas of wear on the surface of the fabric may cause it to take the dye differently there and you won't get a uniform colour.

A)You’ll need three times as much as you think you do.
B) blue over yellow will give a green cast unless you actively saturate the material. (see A)

I tried fabric paint on green velvet bar stools and i wanted navy. It lookwd good with good coverage however it went hard and crusty and ended up taking them to the tip!

I've seen people on Instagram literally painting fabric but I'm not sure if that will work....

I've used dylon fabric dye but the covers were removable, can you get your ones off?

Sadly no @NeededANameChangeAnyway

Can you re-cover it? If you are slow and careful you might be able to unpick the existing cover to use as a template. Get a strong flat staple gun (the sort you can press against a wall), big staples and sturdy fabric and staple away! It won't be as professional if you DIY it but who looks under a sofa?!? I've redone a chair using a book from the library, it's a bit wrinkled in places and rough as guts underneath but you only see that if you look closely ....!

I doubt a chaise longue would have a removable cover so the usual way of dyeing fabric ( in the washing machine) presumably wouldn't be appropriate.
If it is removable, check whether it is cotton velvet or something else ( is there a label?) If it is cotton, then it's easy to dye using Dylon and a washing machine.

If the cover isn't removeable I guess you could use something like the liquid you can get to dye leather. With this one, you dab it on and rub it in. It worked well to refresh black suede shoes. I guess there must be a similar product to use for fabric. But like a PP said, you don't want something that you paint on which then goes stiff. Whatever you use, try it on small area underneath first.
