Decorating spare room paint colour

The spare room has white fitted wardrobes and white walls. I want to freshen it up but keep it quite neutral. I’m thinking Egyptian cotton, but leaning towards something with a pinkier tone. I don’t like any of the testers so far, apart from EC but wondering if it’s a bit dark. It’s a large room south/east facing.

I'd leave the walls white but change the artwork, curtains and bedding if that's an option.

I'd go for a crisper colour like a light yellow or light pink.

The EC is too khaki (original meaning not olive) for me.

You might like Little Greene’s “Light Beauvais”. It’s available in their Re:Mix range, which is very good value at £28 per 2.5 litre tin.

Farrow & Ball setting plaster? Or possibly Dimity - these are both warm with pink tones

Dulux Heritage Pale Nutmeg might fit the bill, it’s a pinky beige. I also like the look of F&B Scallop.

I have had Egyptian Cotton previously and I find it to be so inconsistent in terms of colour and quality of the paint!!

If you want a slightly pinkier tone go for Dulux Nutmeg White. It's really nice. Such a beautiful neutral.
I have it in my bedroom with Egyptian Cotton and the two together look great.

Have a look at Dulux mellow mocha, a warm pink toned neutral.

I like Egyptian cotton have it in several rooms. You could have pink accessories.

Do you have anything that you're planning to keep in the room @starsintheirmultitude ? Curtains, rug, bedding etc? Or are you starting afresh?

I love colour so am probably not the best one to advise on a neutral colour scheme! But we're in the process of painting our hall/stairs/landing area in Edward Bulmer Jonquil which is similar (but nicer, imo) to F&B Setting Plaster. We used Setting Plaster in an east-facing bathroom at our last house where we found it a bit washed out.

Jonquil is a warm, welcoming yellow pink that reads as a neutral in our home.

Mellow mocha looks nice, although they always look so different on the wall. Starting from scratch although I’ve already bought a rug which is a faded pink pattern.

I recently painted my bedroom in F&B Setting Plaster and I really like it.

It’s bright during the day with natural daylight (south facing room), and then feels warm and cozy with lamp light in the evenings, without being too dark or oppressive.

I like Dulux just walnut for an earthy neutral

sunflowerparty · 24/05/2026 09:41

My living room is painted in Dulux Heritage Pale Nutmeg, and my master bedroom is in Dulux Heritage mixed to Just Walnut - both are lovely but I think the Pale Nutmeg is my favourite!

I've just done a lot in Coat's Amateur Ceramics which is a pinky beige. It just works everywhere and with everything. I admit I did try to get a match as Coat is kind of punchy price-wise but they just weren't as nice.
