Would a mismatched chair work with a beige corner sofa?

Hi!

I think we are going to get a beige fabric corner sofa. My problem is we’re limited on the space for the corner so only have a few options and none of them seem to come with matching chairs. I wanted a corner with footstool and a loveseat/arm chair type thing on the other side.

Could I just get a totally mismatched chair? Like a green or fully patterned chair? I could tie it in with throw and some bits of decoration but I’m scared I’ll hate it and it will look so out of place 😭.

Please help I’m clueless this is my first time furnishing a house and I’m scared to mess it all up.

Yes totally! Just because someone once invented 3 piece suites doesn't mean every house has to have matching sofas and chairs.
We moved recently and couldn't fit our 2 matching sofas in so we kept one and I bought a totally mismatched armchair to replace it. So we've got an old but vgc mustard yellow slightly patterned sofa and a brand new bluey-green plain but slightly textured armchair, plus a rug with both colours in it somewhere and loads of cushions. All works fine! Love the room!

Of course! We have a plain grey fabric sofa/footstool and then three random accent chairs (one light brown leather, one white with blue stripes and one that’s got a multi-coloured pattern). Looks totally fine!

Yes, mismatched is fine. But corner sofas don’t offer much sitting space. Eg two people can’t sit at the corner end without knocking knees, and the actual corner doesn’t get used, so they aren’t as big as they look.

Yes! Matching furniture is so dated looking. Much more stylish to have a bit of clashing.

Definitely @Jaggy1! We have a large turquoise velvet sofa with an antique dusky pink embroidered sofa in our TV room. And in our little 'snug' room we have a cream sofa (although I'm about to embark on changing that as the colour doesn't suit the room) plus a pale blue wool armchair. In both rooms the scheme is pulled together with loads of colourful, patterned cushions, curtains and antique rugs 😁

Absolutely. DC1 and their partner have two chairs and a sofa. All different colours and styles. They have gone for an overall 'feel' rather than a style and it works really well. The thing that really pulls everything together is that they have a gorgeous rug which is contemporary is style but importantly, has just about every colour you can imagine. The picture shows the type of thing, but not the actual rug.

i like a sofa in one colour and matching chairs in another. if you can get matching cushions you just swap them. two chairs coming with one cushion each and a sofa with two cushions. so you have two of each colour or pattern.

so say a striped chair with plain cushion and plain couch with striped cushions. or different colours. mix and match is good.

Yes, I think it’s quite on trend to have a mismatched chair. I am thinking of having one near my front window in my new house and deliberately am looking for one that doesn’t perfectly match.

I have two sofas and a loveseat in my living room, none of them matching. Grey tweed, green velvet and pink velvet! I receive a lot of compliments on my home decor. There’s clashing and then there’s attractive mismatching.

Absolutely do it so much better for your interior looking intentional ,!!
I absolutely hate matching 3 piece suites !!
(Sorry if anyone has them just my preference)

Definitely don’t get a matching set. That is a terribly dated look. Have a look at some interior design websites or magazines for inspiration.
