How should I prepare grey walls before painting a lighter neutral?

I want to paint over grey paint (I think it's Dulux Polished Pebble or Goosedown). It'll be a neutral more like Summer Linen etc. When I've done samples direct on the grey they look different to when I've done it samples on paper. So how do I prep the grey wall to paint so I get the true colour? Just do a few coats? Use a white paint first?

You could use a light colour primer before your actual paint. Or choose a really good quality paint with lots of pigment and 2 coats should be fine. I recommend Coat Paint, it's lovely to use.

We’ve just done the same - bought a cheap tin of white paint and just done a couple of rough coats over the grey (we had goosedown I think). It definitely looks a little patchy but it’s made the walls a lighter colour to go over.
Then we’ve bought a tin of good quality paint in the colour we want which should only require one coat.
