Which front door do you prefer?

Which front door do you think is nicer? Both will have full length glass either side. They’re both expensive so I want to make sure I pick the right one.

Depends on the style of the rest of the house.

Tortephant · 28/04/2026 17:02

Personally I don’t like either. Would be helpful to see the whole context to advise to give informed opinion for the situation.

In say this as somebody also choosing a new door so have spent lots of time thinking about what works what doesn’t and why

KittytheHare · 28/04/2026 17:03

They look almost identical to me - is it the colour you're referring to? Because otherwise they seem remarkably alike

ExquisitelyDressed · 28/04/2026 17:05

Hard to see the glazing properly on "7" but I don't like that you can see right in on the other one.

Moveoverdarlin · 28/04/2026 17:07

Not fussed on either but slightly prefer number 2. There’s not much in it.

LittlePinkWeed · 28/04/2026 17:09

Sorry but I don't like either of them. I feel I should like the first one more because it's attempting an elegant style but being made of plastic (or whatever) is emphasising it's a pastiche. The second door is probably better at embracing its plastic-ness and not trying to emulate a Georgian style.

But would really need to see the doors with the side windows.

JohnTheRevelator · 28/04/2026 17:13

They look almost identical to me,but I think the first one looks slightly nicer.

Thewaterboy · 28/04/2026 17:19

I prefer the one on the left, the wider looking one

TheBeaTgoeson1 · 28/04/2026 17:29

Proportions are odd on the first one.

Lostallhistory · 28/04/2026 17:31

Whichever one lets in most light.

JustGiveMeReason · 28/04/2026 17:33

Much of a muchness from what I can see.

But I much prefer the small window on the first picture to the large pane of glass on the 2nd.
One of my neighbours has long panes of glass down either side of their front door and it looks really odd, and means everyone can peer into their house / hallway as people walk past.

Duvetdayneeded · 28/04/2026 17:34

Don’t like either to be honest. If you’re having glass at the side, why don’t you just have a solid door? Everyone’s gonna be able to see inside your house which I would hate.

LibertyLily · 28/04/2026 17:41

Neither....they look (virtually) the same to me and are both too plasticky for my taste. What's the difference between them OP?

Aliceinmunsnetland · 28/04/2026 17:43

1 is okay not for choice and as for #2 is a no way would I choose that, too intrusive unless you have a net curtain in the longer window, but then that cuts out light so rather defeats the point of it.

HortiGal · 28/04/2026 17:43

Style both very alike, but not grey, it is going to be dated very soon

dazzlingdeborahrose · 28/04/2026 17:44

I picked 2 but I think the large window should go all the way down to the bottom of the door.

Aliceinmunsnetland · 28/04/2026 17:44

Sorry, not sure what happened with me post 😜

catipuss · 28/04/2026 17:47

You would have to obscure the big window in the second one. Too much visibility into the house. Not too fussed about either of the doors.

FettchYeSandbagges · 28/04/2026 17:47

I voted for the second door, however I don't really like either of them all that much.

rwalker · 28/04/2026 17:52

They look more like a back door
I’d be weary of coloured doors as composite unevenly fades
and will warp in direct sunlight

no doubt there will be someone along who got a grey door 35 years ago and it still looks like new but there’s 3 coloured doors on our street that have faded and when we got a quote ask the guy and he agreed it is a problem

Edited

Our black one is in full sun for about half the day and hasn’t faded or warped in 20 years, but it is covered in tiny chip marks below the keyhole where big sets of keys have clunked against it repeatedly which is annoying.
