Where’s the socket go in an electric fireplace?

I want to do something like this. I thought you needed a socket to hide the cable behind the fireplace. However reading online, it’s not recommended as the heat might melt the cable. So if any of you have one at home, where does the socket / cable go?! And how does it look? Can you see the cable. If you don’t mind share a picture, would much appreciate it! Thanks

I have seen it done where the socket is hidden behind the fireplace but operated from a separate switch off to the side.
No heat build-up behind the fire as they are generally fan heaters blowing forward.

On ours, the plug was cut off and the cable fed through a short length of channel into a fused switch to the side of the chimney breast.

The reason not to have the socket behind is because you can’t unplug it without moving it which you’d need to do if it became faulty and even if not, some fires are big or heavy making them difficult to move,

As per post above, best to have them wired in to a fused switch to the side so you can isolate in case of fault etc.

Also not good having a loose wire behind as it may get rubbed or damaged when you move the fire for cleaning etc.

Dont think the heat is an issue as heat flows upwards and outwards not lower nor behind and i5 shouldn’t be getting so hot as to melt wire in normal use unless faulty.

We used to have an electric fire hung on the wall, and the cable just came from the bottom of it along the skirting and into a socket behind the TV. It was visible of course but didn’t look bad.
