I am considering it but concerned this is purely out of nostalgia for my childhood 80s home…! But at the same time- warm underfoot (and possibly compatible with ugh?) sustainable, easy to install…seems there’s a lot to like?

Noooooooo!
What?
No.
Simply No.

We had it installed in our kitchen last year. Corka Espira I think. It’s lovely, and is wearing well, but has faded dramatically where the sunlight hits it from the bifolds. It blends in with the non-faded bits though, so you wouldn’t know it unless you lifted a rug.

I had a cork floor ( yes in the 80’s), it was brilliant easy to clean and warm under foot also it was sound deadening. It was also hard wearing.

looking online I see there are lots of different designs and colours now so what’s not to like?

I’d love it in our kitchen too

(I meant compatible with UFH)

but I had forgotten about the sun fading, good point

I had it in a bathroom many year ago and loved it. Would definitely fancy it again.

We have it in our kitchen, dinning room and lounge room. I love it. Hard wearing, soft (glasses will often bounce), warm underfoot and quiet. The down side is it gets dusty. Also we sealed ours ourselves and probably needed another coat as some of the furniture has scratched it but easy enough to recoat.

I love this idea.

Love cork flooring. Not sure if it will work well with UFH because one of the advantages of it is that it is insulating but check that. I think it's gorgeous and I love that it is so sustainable (so much better than the awful plastic MN favourite LVT). We don't have it but I'm going to have it somewhere in the house, I just haven't decided which rooms yet because I'm currently in the obsessed stage where I want it everywhere. I do have a cork wall in DSs room which is great and adds so much warmth (both literally and metaphorically).

ETA: my parents had it in their house in the 80s so I do get nostalgic about it.

Ah ok- I’m planning on fitting UFH downstairs… so maybe it’s not the best plan… has anyone got it in a bathroom upstairs? Maybe that’d be better for me

Iwe have it in our bathroom. Yes it does fade a bit in the sun (but we don't have a very sunny bathroom). But it's warm. And there are dozens of colours now so you can get a more whitewashed look which is already paler, and there are different grades (suitable right up to wet rooms) I would do it again.

we built our garden shed ourselves and it is not insulated. We lay cork flooring and it goes a lot way in making the shed warmer. It is easy to clean. It was a good idea.
not sure i would use it in the house though due to aesthetic. Saying that i went to a restaurant the other day and the walls were covered in natural cork and it looked great.
