What’s better- normal sink or countertop basin sink? For a cloakroom

Planning on doing up our downstairs toilet. Going to get a 60cm vanity unit. I love the look of a countertop basin that would look like it’s sitting on top of the vanity unit but are they practical for a busy household? If you have one do you like it?

We recently renovated and although I liked the look in the shop, I didn't get them for our bathrooms. The underneath of the bowl is just another surface you need to clean and trying to clean the nook where it joins the countertop would be a PITA. If its a cloakroom, would you have space on the countertop to also put soap etc?

I have a glass one and I love it. It has been in place for over 10 years now.

I agree that they look good, but also that they would be a massive pain to clean. Splashes, limescale, soap scum - all are bad enough without crevices and bits that are difficult to reach.

It would be a 600mm unit so enough space to put soap on I think? Hadn’t even thought of that though!

We've got one and the outside of the basin only needs the occasional light wipe down. The vast majority of the soapy water stays in the basin with the occasional splash on the countertop.

It must be a big downstairs toilet, 60cm is quite a big vanity for a cloakroom!

It’s 1.4 x 1.8m so a decent size. Current vanity is 45cm and could easily be bigger!
