Kitchen refurbishment - yes or just wait and fully replace?

So, we are looking to create extra storage/laundry space in our kitchen by redesigning an awkward wall of cupboards/worktop. The plan is to pull it all out and replace with consistent floor to ceiling cabinets. This’ll all need to be new.

We can’t currently afford to do a full kitchen replacement and to be fair, the other cupboards/drawers on the other side are still solid. I think having mismatched old units and new units will annoy me so was thinking about maybe replacing the doors on the old units to match the new ones. Appreciate that kitchens aren’t standard sizes between stores so we will work it out if this is feasible. Anyway, I digress. I was wondering if anyone has gone down the route of replacing doors only and what this cost was, and how easy it was.

Also considering covering the laminate worktop with quartz using one of the online companies that I’ve found. There seems to be plenty of companies specialising in quick kitchen refurbs.

Has anyone done this and if you wouldn’t mind sharing the cost/recommandations, I’d be forever grateful

My advice would be to wait until you can do what you really want. Doing half measures tends to mean you live with the compromise for a lot longer!

I think I’d wait until I could do it all at once and get everything exactly how I wanted it. Maybe have a date in mind that you’d like the work to be started e.g. Summer 2027 and between now and then just try to save save save as much money as possible.

So, we can’t really wait to replace the laundry/storage area part. This is being affected by other changes we are making. A new kitchen would be a ten year plan - we have an extension planned in next two/three years which is first priority. It’s not a 2027 sort of plan…..

Current kitchen layout/units are fine, I’m just not sure I could cope with many years of mismatched cabinets in our kitchen hence the idea of a cheaper refurb in the meantime. Unless people would just leave existing cabinets as is, and would just try to match the new area with it? I won’t get a perfect match as our kitchen is at least 11 years old now….
