Internal door curtain

Im going to replace an internal door between bedroom and landing with a curtain,
Looking for opinions which side to hang the curtain rail?

Or instead of putting it above the frame hang it from the internal horizontal part of the frame

The curtain will need to be double sided ie lined in a nice fabric, one side each to match decor

Need to know why you’re doing this, what the purpose is, what you want to achieve with it. Is it a token space-divider? Do light, sound, drafts matter?

I need to know from the aesthetic aspect. What side would look better , thanks

I think I'd consider putting one on each side of the door so it looks nice from both sides.

It is worth considering whether this might cause a fire risk before you remove the door.

I hung mine inside the bedroom (was a temp measure while the door was replaced) and put the rail almost to the ceiling. I loved it. The dog could come and go freely, it was warmer and surprisingly cut down on noise too, which just goes to show how paper thin my doors are 😂
I choose inside as I thought it would look odd in the hallway with all the other doors remaining.

Well, it makes a visual statement. As a PP said, hung on a wall side where there are other doors, it would look odd, whereas hung on a wall side where there are no other doors, you can do what you like with it.

I had a Japanese friend who always hung a half curtain at the entrance to her kitchen. She used a pressure-mounted pole inside the doorframe. If you just want a light curtain, this would be a good compromise. I don’t think it would be comfortable to pass through if the curtain was heavy.

Seconded! We have curtains on the two doors into our living room as anything else would just be in the way all the time - both sets hung close to ceiling (rather than near the door frame) and on the living room side.

@Gifteddeposit2008@Smallorveryfaraway
this makes sense to me but does it look weird on the hallway side?
I would probably have it hooked up to one side mostly though might let it down sometimes e.g visitors / very cold

I wouldn't replace a door to a bedroom with a curtain. If there was a fire and you were sleeping you wouldn't have the barrier from the fire that a door would provide and gives you precious extra minutes to escape.
