What do we think of these? Should I get one and if so, where from?

They seem unhygienic to me. Unless you’re willing to wash every 2 weeks

ChocHotolate · 16/02/2026 23:14

Love mine, so easy to wash and dry. I washed mine today, hung it next to a radiator and it was dry in 2 hours. Actually seems more hygienic to wash the whole thing

Depends how often you wash it

Goodwitch9 · 16/02/2026 23:18

Where is yours from Choc?

I have a thin coverless one for the summer. It’s great. As others have said wash and dry the same day. But in the winter I prefer a snuggly down duvet.

abbey44 · 16/02/2026 23:27

I love mine, and it’s easier to wash than a sheet and/or duvet cover. As others have said, it dries really quickly and just goes straight back on the bed. Mine is a summer weight one, but in the winter I use it under a down duvet and just wash it weekly instead of the duvet cover. No-brainier to me really. Just to add, it’s a super king and still fits into my ordinary domestic washing machine.

Goodwitch9 · 16/02/2026 23:30

Where did you both get them from?

OP posts:
KnickerlessParsons · 16/02/2026 23:40

Do they do patterned or colourful ones? The ones that come up when I google are all blues, creams and greys. I’d end up putting a cover over it!

You wash it as often as you’d wash the duvet cover. That’s the point.

The idea is that you wash them as often as youd wash a cover, theyr'e easy to wash and dry, but for that reason they're a shiny nylon fabric, like a sleeping bag. OK for occasiobal use, but not what I want to sleep under all along.

Copperoliverbear · 16/02/2026 23:46

Night owl. ( white) wash every week.

SilenceInside · 16/02/2026 23:51

They’re not shiny nylon @Rockstick unless you want to buy one that’s nylon. The ones

I have are poly cotton, and aren’t at all shiny or like a sleeping bag.

How can it be easier to wash than a duvet cover when it's bigger?

I got some for the kids, but have gone back to duvet covers as I found washing and drying then a real pain.

Twinkletwinkly · 16/02/2026 23:57

I don’t know anyone who has one so I have only seen photos of them. They do sound appealing but I’m struggling to see how they can dry in the course of a few hours ready to go back on the bed that evening. I don’t have a tumble dryer and my duvet cover takes 2 full days to dry indoors 🤷‍♀️

They’re certainly not all shiny?
Maybe you got a cheap one?

Mygrannypantsrock · 17/02/2026 00:19

I got coverless duvets from amazon none of them shiny.
The kids all have ones with a pattern on. The 2 I have for my own bed are plain one for winter one for summer.
I wash them 2 x a week just like I would duvet covers.

You wash a Duvet cover 2 X a week?!
Blimey

Yeah beds get changed twice a week so I would be wasting covers 2x a week.

Does it easily fit in a normal washer and dryer? I used to need to take duvets to the laundrette. If so, what brand please, and would you say it's warm enough for all year in the UK?

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/02/2026 23:21

Wouldn't be without mine. Washed, dried and back on the bed in three hours. Wash it at least twice a month, sometimes more. It's just so little effort.

ThatsRoughBuddy · 17/02/2026 23:27

I have a Night Lark one that I bought from John Lewis. It’s a pretty patterned one so they’re not all boring colours. I still prefer my silk duvet and cotton duvet cover though.

Will add pic of my cute Night Lark one,

So am I a complete scuzzbucket for not doing anywhere near that?!
I might wash a base sheet once a fortnight and a duvet cover once a month!

AreEyePee · 18/02/2026 01:04

I love, love, love mine!

I have a 4.5 tog for summer and a 10.5 tog for winter, all from dunelm.

Mine are king-size and all fit in my 9kg washing machine. The kids have double and all come with matching pillow slips.

I wash all mine once per weeks like I would have washed my quilt covers.

They are so quick and easy and there's no more faffing around trying to fit the quilt cover on 4 beds. Just straight in the wash and back on the bed without giving it a second thought.

Totally agree! We’re a whole household coverless duvet bunch now!

Mine are from Night Owl. They get washed every 2 weeks, put over the banister in the morning and dry and back on the bed by evening. Makes changing beds so much easier!

It’s easier because there’s no wrestling with getting the duvet in and out of its cover - you just put the whole thing in the washing machine, then hang it up to dry. Mine dries in a couple of hours, quicker if I use my heated drying rack, and goes straight back on the bed. Game changer, I bloody love it.

Mine’s from Night Lark, a blue and white gingham check.
