Can someone PLEASE explain to me the best type of paint for skirting boards, door frames? We’ve replaced them all, done x2 coats of Zinsser Bulls Eye 123 primer and are now ready for the top coat. But, oh my word, the choices!!!!!!

Never doing this again so happy to fork out for the best. Dulux Trade? But whats the best finish? Satin? Eggshell? Gloss?

My brain is frazzled!

Satin and eggshell are very similar in that they both have a light sheen rather than being quite shiny like gloss. Personally I prefer eggshell/satin. Go for a quality brand such as Dulux as there is more pigment in them so you can get the job done with fewer coats of paint.

I've recently done my woodwork (skirting, doors, window sills) in Dulux Trade Satinwood using a good quality foam mini roller - looks lovely.

We've just done the woodwork in two rooms (kitchen and snug) in Edward Bulmer eggshell. It goes on beautifully, has no awful odour and is worth every penny, imo.

We'll definitely be using it again instead of Little Greene and Farrow & Ball eggshell which we've used extensively in previous houses. Of those two (LG & F&B), LG is better - F&B is more runny/needs additional coats.

So gloss is shinier and harder wearing. I like it but I don't think its overly fashionable atm. Satinwood is less glossy. Egg shell is basically matt. The drawback of egg shell is it can show scuffs. We have most of our woodwork in gloss. We had a cupboard made and painted in egg shell.

Dulux Trade Quick Dry Satinwood. Ive used lots, this is the best. Trust me.

If you want colour, then check out Rustoleum (just to add another choice😆). I used their satinwood interior wood paint in All Green as I couldn’t find any interesting colours from the main suppliers (Dulux, Crown etc). £1 samples with free postage, and £18 for a 750 ml tin but you can usually find a 10% offer somewhere.
